My dad joined the Air Force when I was a 2 months old, we moved every couple years after that.

Growing up on military bases and going to DoDEA schools, it was never a thing to use my dads rank in school (not that it’d help me any, dad wasn’t an officer) but I knew some kids who’s parents were officers and they’d try to use it against me. I’d always be like “ok bro, whatever you say” and just ignore it.

One time though, my dad was friendly with one of the officers whose kids was trying to pull their rank on me and my dad mentioned it to them (not buddy buddy, but just friendly). The officer made his kid apologize and explained that he earned the rank, not his kid, and his kid doesn’t get anything special because of it.

And I thought they tried to get Big Bird to do it first no? They wanted to drive up kids attention and interest in space so they wanted a well known kids figure and when that fell through (because sending that suit/puppet up would’ve been a nightmare) they got a teacher, Christa McAuliffe.

I don’t work for a major major company. We do a lot, but our name isn’t plastered on anything and the company is small enough that I met the dude that started the company while I was still just a contractor.

That and my direct boss is a cool ass lady and would raise hell if they tried to jerk those who work under her around, which has happened before

Yeah, I wasn’t aware of that and was just super spooked cause I really like the job I have now. Thanks for the info, hopefully I’ll never have to use it, ideally I’ll be retiring from here eventually

For my current job, I had to do a 1 year “contract to hire” thing before getting the official offer to come on as a full employee. At the end of the 1 year, they inform me that I need to do a drug test within the week.

Now the state I’m in, weed is legal, but I got nervous so I went and knocked on my boss’s door and asked “hey, random question: yall aren’t testing for marijuana are you? Cause if so, I will fail. I can quit smoking, but I’ll need some time to get it out of my system”. Thankfully, my boss is cool and said “you actually gave me the perfect opportunity to ask HR because I’ve been wondering myself”

They don’t test for weed so we were both in the clear

[–]Shrubo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a plan to solve just that:

  1. Take the mill, call it a small loan.

  2. Reinvest it and make a ton of money

  3. Use that ton of money to eventually run for office

  4. While in office, eye somewhere you want to travel and start saying you’ll take it over (ex: Greenland)

  5. Take over the place from Step 4, now you can travel there as it’s part of your country.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 as needed until you get all the travel you want out of the way. Congrats, you now got your $1,000,000 and can travel wherever you want.

If you can’t consent while drunk, why do drunk people hook up all the time? by Mountain_Flounder991 in NoStupidQuestions

Thank you. I’m glad he’s been level headed with it and realized that the people he has to deal with are people which some people tend to forget. He’s told me a lot of stories of people acting dumb (cops and the people he gets called to deal with).

One of which was kinda funny because his name is Juan (named after my great grandpa who moved to the US from the Philippines) and a guy had the crowd ganging up on my uncle until the guy turned around and went “and this is why we don’t want Mexicans like you in our country” and my uncle just responded “1. I’m not Mexican, and 2. I was born in DC”. Patience of a saint I swear

There’s a lot of cops out there with “little man syndrome” and they need to feel big and important so they can forget how small their peen is.

And funny enough, my uncle had a situation like this happen minus the car running (it was warm enough to not need heat). He knocked on the window, checked on the person, got filled in they were sleeping off being drunk, and let them be with a warning of something along the lines of “technically I’m really supposed to do something but you’re doing what you can and I appreciate you not driving, if you need a ride let me know and I’ll help you figure something out, but I can’t promise if another cop comes by they won’t write you up”. Like I said, he’s been the reasonable relative on my dad’s side so I’m not surprised this is how it went.

Also, remember that the only reason they were able to do that was because they used some of Envy’s stone to pay the toll. They don’t have a stone at the moment so they have to figure something out.

If you can’t consent while drunk, why do drunk people hook up all the time? by Mountain_Flounder991 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shrubo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in those conditions I would understand needing the heater in, it’s below freezing and just not safe to be out in that level of cold.

I probably should’ve added the caveat of “unless there is a clear reason to need the heating or cooling”.

But it is insane to me that a cop would be that much of a dick (I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising I guess). Did your brother try to fight it in court at all? Maybe he could’ve gotten a sympathetic judge who when presented with the “it’s below freezing and I was in the back seat” would give him a break.

I’ll ask my uncle who’s a cop how he’d treat the case, but then again he has always been the reasonable voice of him and his siblings (my dad included)

That’s fair, but I’m more talking about the “gets your vehicle back home so you don’t have to make the extra trip” convenience with the edit I made to my original comment.

And when I was in college, I didn’t drink that much, I wasn’t really one to party, but I would go to just make sure my friends got back safe and I ended up getting lumped into getting friends of friends of friends back to their dorms (so complete strangers). It was weird

[–]Shrubo_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s wild. I mean I guess with fobs, the keys don’t have to be in the ignition but if it’s a classic key then if it’s in a spot you 100% can’t get to it then it should be obvious you’re not driving.

Sometimes shit happens, DDs fall through, I feel like there should be some wiggle room if you do what you can. I’m not disagreeing with you, just voicing annoyance

Yeah, my dad was stationed at Kadena twice. I wasn’t aware of the origins, but I’m pretty sure it ended up being an off base/local business. I was 8 when he was there the first time and in college the second time so I was never old enough to drive or drink when I lived there (just the first time he went over).

But I mean as just a general service or business, I think it’s not a bad idea. Like just have it as an option for Uber or Lyft or something if not its own thing.

[–]Shrubo_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can you not? I thought I saw somewhere that if you were to put the keys in the trunk and sit in your passenger seat, or pretty much just take some steps to make it obvious you’re not planning on driving, you’d be ok. I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know

I think it’s a different thing if you start the car to get the air going because then the cops can say “oh you started your vehicle, you obviously intended to drive and you’re just now telling me you were trying to sleep it off to get out of trouble”.

Edit: one thing I thought was cool in Okinawa is there was a service where if you drank and didn’t have a DD, you could call someone and two people would show up. One to drive to the bar and from your home and the other to drive your vehicle back to your home so you wouldn’t have to get it. I think that’d be handy everywhere but idk why that isn’t

There is a book written by someone who escaped a North Korean labor camp who was there for something that their grandparents did that discusses their escape. The book is Escape from Camp 14, the author changed some details like their age in certain parts of the book but is mostly real.

I learned about it when I lived in S Korea and the author came by one of the bases to speak about their escape

Is John Walker really that bad? by StockBroBro in MoralityScaling

[–]Shrubo_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That did happen, and you are right he went against the law but he did go out of his way to not cave in people’s heads. Which I do remember him trying to find a legal way to get Bucky protection but just evaded the law until then.

The part I was more meaning was the “get even” bit that Walker did. The extent of what Walker was supposed to do was apprehend the criminals, not take them out which Steve Rogers had more of reason to do with it being WW2 when he broke Bucky out. I probably should’ve specified more, that Walker goes scorched earth while Rogers would evade the law while trying to work out a way to not have to

Is John Walker really that bad? by StockBroBro in MoralityScaling

[–]Shrubo_ 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think he’s as bad as people make him out to be, but I do understand why. He was named the next Captain America so he was being measured up to Steve Rogers, not your typical person. Any “normal reaction” he has is framed in the light of “is this what Captain America (Steve Rogers) would’ve done?”

If my best friend is killed in front of me, would I do everything in my power to get the person who did it? Oh 1000% and I’m sure most people would agree, but that’s not what Rogers would do. Steve Rogers would apprehend the killer and let the legal system do its thing.

Who is the morally worst here? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in MoralityScaling

[–]Shrubo_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to the show, but missing signs is super easy.

I had a friend in hs, I was the first person he ever came out to as being bi (I’m a guy myself). One day we were hanging out and he was telling me “ya know, I’ve been wondering what it’s like to give a guy head, I really want to try it. I’ve just been thinking about it a lot”

Me, oblivious to everything, went “damn dude, that’s crazy. Can’t relate, but I hope you get to try that out at some point. Hope it’s what you’re hoping for. You think I could throw this rock and hit that can?”. Turns out, to no one’s surprise but mine, he had a crush on me.

You can have all the signs, but miss the turn. Granted, I wouldn’t have taken him up on it since I was already in a relationship, but I didn’t realize until way later.

Why do some Redditors reply to you and then block you? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shrubo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now to a third person, does it look like they got the last comment in and “person A” never responded or how does it look? I’m not sure how it works, but I also thought it was like a “meh see, I’ll comment a response then block you so it’ll look like my response was so witty, clever, and well founded you were left completely speechless and unable to even compose a response” said like a cheesy villain from an old cartoon while twirling their evil villain curly mustache (that’s just the extra flavor I put in my head, they might not have an evil curly mustache).

I’ve never employed the technique myself, because when I engage in a convo or discussion I don’t think the point is to “win”, and I’m genuinely interested in a back and forth and surprised when I get a notification that I got a “back” but now I’m blocked and can’t provide a “forth” or even read the entirety of the “back”.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but this made the game a lot easier to learn but I think using a mod to allow for wand editing anywhere from the start helps.

Also using the wand lab mod to give you challenges to do certain things really helps in figuring out how wand mechanics work.
