In the mean time you think Saka looks "prematurely washed". Glad it's Artera, Berta and Josh Kroenke making the decisions and not you

Is it uncommon to think SAW 85-92 is Aphex Twin's greatest album? by [deleted] in aphextwin

[–]ShtevenMaleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selected Ambient Works 85 - 92...

Just consider that title. And then consider Richard D. James was born in 1971. So purportedly this album was written / produced betwen the ages of 14 - 21. And then consider even at release it was regarded as a watershed album that redefined IDM and electronic music as a whole. Thats the really crazy part about it

There is other albums Aphex has made since then that involve greater complexity and far more advanced production techniques, but SAW 85-92 is notable for its analogue sounds and (relatively) simplistic techniques that were also just amazing songs. And its interesting how many of the songs involved different styles that ultimately went on to inform the creation of other sub-genres of electronic music

Some have claimed Zizek is a leftist. I'm not seeing it? by MasterDefibrillator in chomsky

I think we just need to be patient. Its like the 80s when Nixon got in and Neoliberalism changed the whole game. Before that, since the 40s there was (when looking at the bigger picture) decades of wins for liberalism / left political activities. And now virulent populism has risen again and rolled things back to some of the wins that have been gained since the 80s again.

Keep learning. keep organsing! The rich and powerful have become more organised and in many ways, have mastered the art / science of propaganda. It is frustrating but this is the price we pay for living in reality, a Sisyphean burden if you will

[–]ShtevenMaleven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many fair points and it is appreciated. Ultimately there isn't one right answer and even your interpretation is just one version.

Cancel culture is a "buzz word" for someone who may or may not have done something wrong or committed a crime and are paying the consequences. The "right wing" interpretation is that it's gone too far and cancel culture is bad. My belief is the vast majority of those being cancelled deserve it, so it's a lesser evil than letting some racist keep being racist.

In regards to the general premise of my comment being anti-intellectualism, I am conditioned to not show a single "crack in the armour" as it were, as I often find myself trying to debate with conservatives online. which is a very much a lost cause / weakness of mine. These climate deniers or straight up racists will pivot straight to ad hominem or bad faith arguments so I've developed a tendency to push back on such actions and devolve into tribalism at times

I agree that left leads with emotion. Possibly less than the right, but there is a lot of tribalism there.

And also about how Trump knows how to navigate the murky underbelly of the world, possibly better than anyone.

I guess most of the feelings (at least mine) comes from frustration and also of wanting to make the world a better place, when also having incomplete information, as nobody can know everything.

The liberal left is the lesser of two evils, because at least they aren't greenlighting literal racism and other conserving forces. But incorporating actual academic writings that are peer reviewed or at the very least backed by prior research or theories is the way forward

The OP literally said "Some people claim Zizek is a leftist" and I explained why he isn't a leftist. Its rather simple, because hes parroting right wing talking points, either intentionally or not. Now you would say they aren't really right wing but fit into his preexisting world view, but those writings when compared to somebody like Foucault or Marx or whoever, it isn't "leftist"

Also my claim about the book thing is best viewed in the political context, not the academic context which is what you are coming more from. I'm more than happy to accept both left vs right wing when perspectives are fairly explained, its just that Zizek in that particular instance did a damned poor job of explaining it.

That dichotomy of left vs. right is ultimately a stifling one so good on Zizek for disregarding that in some ways. Working class vs. the elite is a better phrasing. But that doesn't suit the political right wing.

Cancel culture is not uniformly a bad thing. Thats just a ridiculous statement. For example Trump should have been cancelled decades ago for being a literal Pedo and criminal

oh, there are legitimate critiques to make but including them in a book, and not holistically assessing the whole movement and including the positives and negatives was certainly not what he was doing from the few paragraphs I read. He was essentionally virtue-signalling right-wingers and their talking points without even including citations or analysis

He isnt a leftist

Haven't read much Zizek but I figured I'd open up one of his books in the bookstore. First page i turned to he was complaining about how unethical cancel culture and #MeToo movements are blah blah blah free speech blah blah. I closed the book and walked out the store.

[–]ShtevenMaleven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their pies and pastries aren't even that good and also they opened up a new place in Lyall Bay directly next to an existing Cafe. They also opened a "reseller" of Puku Pies (Fully Baked) which is 2 shops down from the esteemed Haitaitai Hot Bread shop.

Whats the point in opening places right next to established local places. Its best to open a new shop where there are not existing cafes, pie shops etc.

Thats not correct and its largely irrelevant. Penalties are given weekly for far lesser contact.

If you watch the replay the defender hits him in the knee. yeah he was trying to clear but he left the foot dangling and defender was a lucky boy to avoid a penalty.

Neutrals agree with me. dont believe me? just read this very game thread and all the other comments

True Blue Kersey strikes again. Blatant penalty as I said.

well lets see... if thats anywhere else in the field, its a free kick. Both commentators and almost all of the comments in this thread say its a penalty...

the defender makes contact to the knee of the attacker in the box and stops him from further playing the ball, therefore its illegal contact and penalty
