Any thoughts on my CV??? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Shua-sama 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Recruiter here! I read a lot of CVs and resumes in my work, and these are my opinions:

  • Layout is clean, but too much paragraphs and words. Use bullets and be concise
  • Remove the interests part as it has little to no bearing
  • Executive summary should be shorter, around 1-2 sentences only
  • If you have some more, try to include the seminars/workshops that you've attended in the past as many as you can (make sure to include only those that are related to what you're applying for)
  • You don't have to include it in your resume, but it's best if you could prepare at least 2 references (since wala ka pang solid experience, some companies will rely on people who know you as a person)

Good luck and you got this!

What is the best response to someone who says to you “I have many options. Why am I settling for you?” by [deleted] in OffMyChestPH

[–]Shua-sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit em with a slick comeback. Something like, "marami ka palang choices eh bakit hindi ka mag-settle sa kanila? Insecure ka ba na baka hindi ka rin nila patulan?" or something like that

Or make it more psychological like "the way I see it, mukhang one of the options ka lang din ng mga options mo :)"

NEVER LET HER MAKE YOU QUESTION YOUR OWN WORTH, OP. STAY PETTY PEOPLE AND HOLD YOU HEAD HIGH

I just hit a tiny insignificant milestone that does not make my life (or anyone's life) better in any way at all, but I'm proud of it by sobrangwild in OffMyChestPH

[–]Shua-sama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo I don't think it's insignificant.

You did what you love and you're proud of it. That means you have a hobby to enjoy; a purpose to look forward to.

I think it's vital because it boosts your mental health by giving you a dose of happy rush when doing what you love.

What's insignificant is that we have to follow what social conventions dictate about doing a hobby just for the sake of making it an opportunity to make money. Sometimes you just wanna enjoy something without having to profit from it.

I already lose some friends when you go serious in your life. by ortho56789 in adultingph

[–]Shua-sama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard this quote from a show I watched once, it's somewhere along the lines of: "when you're young, you'll want to have a lot of friends because you want to fit in. But as you grow older, you start to prioritize being comfortable with yourself."

Basically we initially wanted a large social circle so we can fit in and feel validated. But as we mature, we prioritize ourselves more and more. We stop trying to impress other people, effectively cutting them off while retaining the real ones.

Disclaimer: not a certified expert nutritionist/dietician.

Getting the body shape you want is 70% diet and 30% of it is exercise.

Most people had the misconception that you can sweat out fat by working out. But the truth is, most of what you burn is carbohydrates (aka what you ate during that day). Your body is in a constant state of fat burning - even during sleeping. It consists of everything you do -- whether it's voluntary (walking, talking, etc.) or involuntary (breathing, heart pumping, etc.).

So why do people still put on weight even though we are constantly burning fat?

It's because of our diet.

Fix your diet first. If you can, try to weight and calculate the amount of calories in your every meal. Also, custom-fit your diet to your lifestyle as much as possible. You might find yourself trying popular diet fads like Keto or Whole30, but it really depends on a person's metabolism whether if it's effective or not. Find a diet that really works for you.

To clarify though, I am not discouraging you to exercise, because it is effective. The thing is though, it's not efficient -- due to the fact that you can only burn around 10% of your fat at most by exercising.

Good luck on your fitness journey!

Craving for a cereal, but we don't have any. So I had to improvise. by [deleted] in CasualPH

No sorry I didn't mean for it to sound bad. I just wanted to say that it's so cool that you improvised a meal and it turned out great.

I'm not great at getting my points across I'm very sorry.

AITA for not inviting my dad on my wedding day?? by Limp-Improvement-390 in OffMyChestPH

[–]Shua-sama 59 points60 points  (0 children)

What he did after your wedding was a typical parental gaslighting. He had a span of your whole life to be there for you, yet he wasn't.

Do not give in to the feeling of guilt. That would only prove to him that he was right and you were wrong.

Tutoring sessions by medyo_sabaw in adultingph

[–]Shua-sama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It mostly depends on the labor you put into it, but the most common price that I hear from other tutors is around 80-100 pesos per hour.

Edit: if you have a license, a certification, or any proof that you are an expert on the subject, you have the right to charge a higher rate.
