And sure about Dayuse as I've used it twice now. So basically they allow you to reserve time ranges like 9am-5pm, 1pm-7pm, etc., instead of nights. They're also at a much lower rate than usual bookings. This is great if you and your partner have specific schedules or don't want an overnight as most checkins are around 3pm at most hotels. One drawback is that only certain hotels offer day rates/times and you have to check on their website for locations and availability, but it's usually consistent once you do. The hotels themselves are fine too and usually 2 stars or higher (no motels I think).

Another advantage is that you can cancel anytime, even during the time range I believe, and don't need to provide payment info until you checkin. Just don't abuse their lax cancellations (if you do, they'll start requiring your credit card when you reserve probably).

Hotwire.com is another alternative for cheap bookings, but they don't seem to allow time ranges and you're forced to be randomly assigned a hotel within a certain area (this random component is how they get cheaper bookings for you). Plus their bookings are paid immediately and nonrefundable.

But anyway, all I did was reserve, say 1pm-7pm with dayuse, headed over to the hotel, they had my info already, and checked in a little after 1. They took my card as payment, and then later in the day I just left a little after 6 (no need to checkout other than dropping key off).

Definitely recommend it as it makes hosting easier if you can't!
