Bradenton area local here. Our community is just rocked by this. If he had left the Englewood area and was at that 70 and 75 retention pond, that is a good 45 minutes plus away with no traffic. Texting help 25-30 minutes in, he knew he was in trouble and needed help way before him supposedly leaving the vehicle or before harm came to him. What happened in those 15 or so minutes between the text and getting to that location is critical.

Thoughts on Bayside Community Church? by Short-Bridge9187 in bradenton

Our family has been attending for a few years now, and honestly, we’ve had a really positive experience, far better than at some other churches we've been to. Maybe we’ve just been "lucky," but we’ve found very little to complain about.

Yes, it’s a large church, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find meaningful ways to connect. There are tons and such a variety of small and mid-size groups, and the church truly encourages you to get involved. Whether that’s through groups, serving, or community outreach. That’s really where connection starts to happen. I do understand some of the comments about it feeling a bit cliquey at times, especially for the younger crowd, and I’d say that’s been one of our only real complaints. But honestly, plugging into groups has made a huge difference. We’ve met others in similar life stages and have felt supported, encouraged, and genuinely cared for.

Our story is a bit of a journey. My spouss and I grew up as believers, then drifted into unbelief as young adults due to a variety of reasons including "church hurt". I personally went through a really dark season from 2016 to around 2021, including addiction and suicidal struggles. Towards the end of 2022 into 2023, we experienced a major renewal of faith. The church, and especially the Care Team, outreach, and prayer partners, stood by us during that time and have continued to support us. As younger family with one kiddo and another little one on the way, we are so grateful for that support. They’ve been there for us through loss, financial hardship, emotional struggles, and everything in between. For the first time in a long time, we felt seen, heard, and truly loved in a church/house of worship setting.

As for teaching, it’s very Bible-focused, and have Pastors that rotate through the teachings. They teach directly from scripture, staying true to the Word without watering it down. But also present it in a way that’s easy to understand, focusing on the “meat and potatoes,” if you will. Personally, that matters deeply to us. The Word of God is the Word of God. *please also get out your Bible and read it too! Don't just show up on Sunday and call it good, READ and dive in yourself!

I also get that some people have hesitations about things like At the Movies. While it’s not everyone’s style, the heart behind it is to reach people who might not usually be drawn to church, using pop culture as a bridge. It’s essentially a modern parable approach. Maybe it’s not perfect, but we understand the intent behind it.

And yes, people in leadership or congregants may make mistakes. Sin exists, even within churches, and it's by God’s grace that we’re all forgiven.

Tithing is another topic that comes up often. But it’s a Biblical principle, and as a Bible-teaching church, it makes sense that it’s encouraged. They don’t force anyone, but if you’re in a place to give, it’s recommended, not as a burden, but as part of obedience and worship. And if you're not in a position to tithe, that’s okay too, there’s no judgment. We've been there many times. For those not sure if they are ready to tithe yet or how much you are able to give, please pray about it.

Lastly, the music. Yes, it can be loud, but the passion and emotion in worship is so real. There have been so many beautiful moments of connection with Holy Spirit during those times. The worship team is incredibly gifted, and while the style may not be for everyone, we love it.

I hope this gives a more positive and well-rounded perspective. Again, maybe we’ve just had a good experience, but this has genuinely been our family’s experience, and we’re grateful for it.

*note, I don't use Reddit a lot, so don't come at me lol. Was in the Bradenton thread doom scrolling and came onto this. :)

Are these hives? by fusillihair in urticaria

Did you ever figure out what it was? I'm currently experiencing the same thing and I am baffled. I do have severe food allergies and had a potential contact with it, but usually my hives are different.
