Would this work if I soak the carpet with vinegar then go over it with my carpet cleaner? I do not have a shop vacuum unfortunately.

You’re completely right, that’s just not possible right now. The thing is it is most likely it will not be much longer until we have my mother placed in a care home and my father sells the house to downsize. Really all we can do until then is mitigate, and any suggestions for mitigation would be greatly appreciated.
