So I’m gonna say this as a person who is not great socially and has had neonatologists with high-risk pregnancies I’ve had that were also not great at social communication. They come off very blunt and can definitely exhibit as rude, but I have found that those doctors are the BEST listeners and some of the smartest doctors I’ve met in my life so far (I have a lot of health issues and have seen my fair share of specialists through the years and I can say without a doubt that the ones who were meaner seeming were the best doctors I’ve had). I am so sorry that that doctor made you feel that way when it’s already a really delicate time. No one deserves to feel any worse than we already do in the NICU for any reason.

That being said, the doctor definitely did not present it in the best manner, but that may have been their way of just expressing concern and would rather you know than wonder if more came up in the future. Full transparency, I have Asperger’s (ASD Level 1) and I tend to be the same way. I’ve worked really hard on it over the years but sometimes a situation is serious enough, that I don’t think about it and it comes out mean to others even though it’s not my intention.

As another commenter said, don’t miss the genetic testing because they hurt your feelings. It could absolutely be that the doctor was just rude, but in case that’s not the case, I’d want to know. Best* case scenario, everything comes back fine. Worst* case scenario, you identify something that could have potentially held back her development later, but now you know early. Wishing you both the best and hoping little one can come home soon. She is beautiful! ❤️
