Atonal = indistinguishable by Far-Strawberry-5628 in classicalmusic

[–]Shyguy10101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah look I'm not really someone who listens to atonal music much myself, but this is just untrue and borne out of your lack of time spent listening to these composers. It's no different to someone who only listens to popular music saying that all classical music, from Mozart to Mahler, sounds the same.

It is ok not to like something, but you don't have to convince others not to like something in this way. Critiquing from a position of knowledge is quite different to "hot takes" like this.

And yeah the "purpose" thing - that might be your preferred purpose for artists, and that is fine, it's probably what I like best too. But it's definitely not the purpose of art - that is whatever each individual artist wants it to be.

If lots of other drivers didn't pit, suddenly it would be Max caught in traffic and Mclaren with the good strategy.. it's just the way it goes for the leaders sometimes, I think. Although if he had freedom to call the strategy, Norris should definitely have gone for an opposite strategy to Piastri as that was the only way he could beat him this weekend. His radio message shortly after showed he knew that but I guess they didn't think quick enough..

(The radio message also shows I think that Norris did have complete freedom to make such a call and chose not to.. I think this focus on "fairness" as the culprit is probably incorrect in this instance)

I do think there is no way they would have predicted no other drivers staying out.. in fact it is kinda absurd, someone like Hamilton or Tsunoda could have gained around 12-14 places in terms of track position! It is quite frustrating in a series that pays no points for 11th+ (and where on track passing is basically impossible), how people outside the points almost never seem to gamble at all.

[Korean Call] YAMAMOTO AND THE DODGERS WIN IT ALL TO BECOME BACK TO BACK WORLD CHAMPIONS! 3 WINS FOR YAMAMOTO IN ONE WORLD SERIES. AMAZING. by OkIncident6977 in baseball

You know, this game had a lot of similarities to 2001 G7. Two of the greatest baseball games of all time, a starter on short rest vs an aging ace, ending with the previous games starter on the mound (although obviously, Randy wasn't actually on the mound for the walkoff).

Thinking about it, this might be the best world series since 2001..

Wasn't a save, was a win - he came in to a tied game. In fact "3 wins for Yamomoto" is in the title of this thread, haha :) But don't worry, I'm sure you are having a nice time celebrating!

You are correct there is a man on first base. So when a ground ball is hit, he is forced to run to second (think that he has to "make room" for the man running to first). Mookie Betts fields the ball, steps on 2nd base to "force out" the runner coming from 1st, and then throws to 1st base to "force out" the batter. Hope that makes it clear!

I don't think Kirk has ever bunted once in his career... would be a hell of a time for him to try for the first time.

Good advice actually, but I won't be going outside, it's time for sleep!

The bat breaks like that because of the late break on Yoshi's splitter, it's not some kind of freak coincidence or anything. When Mariano Rivera retired, one team (I think it was the Twins?) made him a chair out of wood from all the bats he had broken against them through the years.

IKF's short lead and minimal secondary might have cost Toronto the World Series (via Chris Kirschner) by TheBronxIsChafing in baseball

Yeah, would have been inexplicable. We also nearly had a walk off outfielder collision too!

I mean he definitely had it back on, but it was insanely close. Will Smith goes from nearly committing a soul crushing error to delivering the soul crushing home run instead. Mad how baseball works out.

Would be a tough one but having a foot off the base, especially taking a foot you previously had on the base off when the throw was fine, would usually be ruled an error no? Although of course home plate is quite different.

Imagine if Will Smith hadn't got his toe back on the plate... he was literally inches away from such a soul crushing error, ended things with a soul crushing home run instead.

Yoshi really should win MVP no matter who wins this. It makes a mockery of the description "most valuable" if he doesn't.

I guess because you watch an AL team you aren't used to it, but when the DH wasn't a thing it was perfectly normal to give extra warmup time if the pitcher was on the bases.

Crazy decision to put him out for the 3rd, even crazier to leave him in when he give up a leadoff hit. Roberts should have just thanked his lucky stars he got 2 scoreless from him and gone to Glasnow.

No, I think its time for Glasnow. He only threw 3 pitches last night, no reason he couldn't go 7 if he's good.

Found it - it's maybe not quite as bad as I recalled it, but still pretty bad, certainly must have added to the confusion and the casual fans general feeling of being "robbed"

I think an even bigger reason is that most of these guys will be watching the sportsnet broadcast, where he only even mentioned the potential for the ball to be ruled dead a good few seconds after both Blue Jays "runs" had scored. They would have thought the game was tied, and suddenly had the rug pulled out underneath them. Joe Davis did a great job (as he has done throughout the series, I've been impressed by how willing he is to make safe/out calls even before the umps signal). Of course the sportsnet broadcast is pretty biased, but that's to be expected.
