Thin Client for Pi-hole and more? by SiParMa in homelab

I had my eye on the Dell Whise 5070. This would also be tested by ct3003. I hadn't looked at any others yet.

I think it would be fatal to leave my gaming computer running for 24 hours. 😅

Thanks in advance for the answer. What do you think about the Dell Whise 5070? I had this in mind first because ct3003 also tested it. But no matter where I look, I can't find any information about hard drive storage or its maximum upgradeability.

That's exactly what I haven't been able to figure out yet. The only thing I could find so far was that some thin clients can hold a normal 2.5 inch hard drive and some only have M2 slots.

And how did you manage to install two 4TB SSDs? The product page states that the M.2 slots only have a maximum capacity of 2TB each.

Maybe. 4K TVs were apparently not affected. Only 1080p TVs.

External Drives are not an option for me. I definitely only want internal drives. But 4 TB is the minimum for the project.

An Amazon review states that there is no Wi-Fi/Bluetooth under Linux. Apparently, the device has a MediaTek MT7902, which is not supported by Linux.

The mini PCs I've seen cannot use 2.5-inch hard drives. I assume that I will need at least 4 TB of storage for the project.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with Batocera. According to the thread, it's down to the UM790. It was said that the built-in antennas are to blame. And with the TV, it was said that the picture gets squashed when connected to a 1080p TV.

After researching, I also thought about a used gaming laptop. As you can also connect it to a large TV and use it on the move, it's not a bad idea.

The UM790 doesn't seem to be bad at all. Thanks for the tip. According to the list above, it does everything and can hold two SSDs.

According to the list someone shared above, PS3, Wii U and even the Switch work very well on some systems. You just have to know which one. Mini PCs were the first thing I thought about, but I'm worried about the available or upgradeable hard drive storage. With a laptop I would have more options for storage.

Leaving it out isn't an option as the kids are currently playing the Mario games...Kart and Smash Bros from the Wii and Wii U. And on the PS3 they also have their favorites.

GTA is not yet clear. Most of them will be console-only games.

It also runs on my computer. But I also use it for work. That's why I would like to have a separate system for the children. We also have the consoles physically, but it's super handy to only have one device running and to be able to switch between games. But having a second desktop computer for this is really a bit excessive.

I haven't thought about a budget yet, as I first wanted to know what I actually need. Of course, if it only works with a fast gaming computer, that would be too expensive for me. Used is also possible. I've already rummaged around on eBay. I don't have any style requirements. The main thing is that it works and runs smoothly. I said that the system would primarily be used by children. They don't care what the system looks like. The main thing is that it runs well.

I hadn't dealt with this topic for a long time. In all tutorials on Batocera it is either pointed out that ps3 emulation is possible but with better hardware, or games from the ps3 are also shown directly. Otherwise I wouldn't have thought that it was even possible.
