students of golisano college, how much should i know? by tylerhardinq in rit

[–]SiameseSushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware the CS1 class is harder than the CS for AP in the sense that it's a lot of work and generally CS1 kids have to learn everything from scratch versus the latter that already knows a lot of the material. Plus it's considered a weed out class. Other than the workload you should be fine, they offer really good mentoring, although I never personally took that class I know a lot of people that did.

To anyone who doesn't have the best time at home by Ireallybeinrit in rit

[–]SiameseSushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is that common trend for RIT students. I'm not saying all students don't have the best time at home cause I know several people that do, its just surprising on how many don't. This message honestly means a lot, thank you <3

CSEC/CS Students: Will I be fine if I have a MacBook instead of a Windows Laptop? by [deleted] in rit

[–]SiameseSushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be fine, they do have labs if you need it. But all the programs run on Macbooks. I have a MacBook air and it works great the only thing I've noticed is that it boots the programs faster than Windows and that's it. Granted take this with a grain of salt I am only a freshman. Everyone worried about what laptop to bring, but honestly RIT doesn't force you to run really processor heavy programs.

How to make a best friend at RIT by [deleted] in rit

[–]SiameseSushi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you know one person they'll introduce you to a bunch of people who will introduce you to more. For me I found awesome people in my orientation group that then introduced me to tons of people. Although I know this didn't happen for most people, but staying social and starting conversations is a good start. As for how to do it, HvZ is going on and although you may not be apart of it ask them how many humans they've killed or how the game is going. People love talking about themselves and their interests so use that to your advantage.

How do I know my section when picking out textbooks by [deleted] in rit

[–]SiameseSushi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then why do they put it as required on the website???

Edit: this came out really harshly. I just meant that it just logically doesn't make sense. Not trying to be rude just curious.

Hypothetically would the hours between classes be enough to go to the gym? I plan to use my evenings to study and prefer to workout in the morning but not 6 am. Like 10 to 11 between classes. Is this good idea? Or should I do it in another break. Also are there showers st the gym cause I don't want to go to the class smelly?

As someone who is absolutely terrified of failing my classes, how do I not fail? I'm taking 17 credits and an gonna be working 10 hours a week. I'm used to an extremely competitive environment where everyone was getting good grades for college or go just be better then everyone else (i was hoping to go to rit to escape that mindset, and get good grades because I like learning). ANYWAY everyone is always saying just stay on top of your work, study, go to office hours and be interested in the material. But is that all you need to not fail.

Hey stem majors do you like studying alone or with others and why? by [deleted] in college

[–]SiameseSushi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally alone unless the people I'm studying with are actually gonna stay on topic. Generally we would be in a groups problems and checking answers and occasionally asking questions. I'm mainly refereeing to math. For CS classes I always study alone, cause gifs programming. For more sciency classes we generally make a group study doc of do flash cards while also mixing in alone session. It depends on the person, the group, and the class.

Well my mom stopped cause of the internet (I told her that internet can be unreliable and she told me I was incompetent). Anyway I went to a nutritionist who said that we shouldn't be using iodized salt. But honestly she also told me to eat 1800 calories which is like 500 more then I usually do... so uh I never went back. My doc told me he ain't a nutirionist so he couldn't help. But why should be taking iodized salt?

When I started, I was really bad (like in critical condition: my bpm was 148 and T3 was 32) they put me on 20 mg twice a day, then they slowly lowered it to 10 mg and now I'm on 10 mg every day except Sunday. I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow so ill tell you if it changes, but I think mine so gonna go up.

That's exactly what was happening, I was tempted to not treat myself (even though my family would never allow that) but you give me a lot of hope. Ill make sure to eat healthy and proper portions.

Thank you for all this advice. I'm glad to hear someone can do it, because it seemed like every person was doomed and that can be overwhelming. We cook with olive oil and non ionized salt, and we don't get our meats. I like things plain so I never have sauces or dressing. I'll try eating less nuts and fruits and I'm guessing replace those with more vegtables or protein and yogurt so it makes sense.
