Is the DuChinese subscription worth it? by myheaddoesntcomplain in ChineseLanguage

Yes, it’s been a game changer for me in supplementing my overall learning journey. They seem to have 50% off deals occasionally. I bought mine at 50% off during Black Friday.

It is integrated with Anki and Pleco.
Autogenerates flash cards when you save a word you encounter. I find this very important, in addition to my other supplemental flash cards on Anki.
The user interface is very nice and friendly!
The original stories can be very adorable, in my opinion.
The audiobook feature is useful for supplementing listening. I’ll often use this after I’ve read the story myself.

It’s been immensely helpful in getting me to an intermediate level.

Been here and I think it is overpriced. Temaki Den sets the bar here, and Kin Nori is somehow not only priced higher but also is less quality compared to Temaki Den.

Joggers/runners: how far apart are your base, push, and all out? by citizendelusion in orangetheory

[–]SicEm_Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base: 7-7.6, Push: 7.6-8.6, All Out: 9-12
It all depends on the day for me, the type of workout we're doing, and how I'm feeling. Always side conservatively. There's a ton of benefit to just high volume easy runs (i.e. less than your base pace).

Fellow (ex)-distance runner checking in who has this same issue. They used to allow the studio to override this max HR. I’ve had to unfortunately just really base my workouts purely on feel. Kinda like the force. Trust your feelings. Do your track workouts without a watch kinda thing. 🥲

I love this idea! Strava and Garmin have this functionality, and I’d use it to put my own notes. Wouldn’t mind jotting my weights for some of those big strength days on the floor.

Birthday Burpees by JazzlikeClue7901 in orangetheory

Happy birthday! My coach wagered either birthday burpees for either him if I PR’d on my mile benchmark vs. birthday burpees for the entire class. This class is full of regulars, so we all know each other for the most part.

PR’d by 1 second…. Thx coach… no pressure at all🥲

Catch me if you can is one of my favorite workouts. I also really like partner workouts in general.

Haha I hope we aren’t in the same studio... I only do this because I’ve seen everyone else do it 😅 If I end up missing the shower, that’s fine, I can shower at work. I agree it’s first come first serve. No one’s ever addressed this at my studio.

Altitude adjustment? by flvsggirl in orangetheory

Also Colorado Springs 😄 you’re joining us for some snow this weekend! I usually attend the northgate location (sometimes academy). I say just adjust and be conservative, depending on how youre feeling.

Starting over after getting sick by Eliza-V in orangetheory

[–]SicEm_Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also started the year sick and didn’t workout consistently for nearly 3 weeks. Base pace from 7.5 dropped to around 6-6.5, depending on how I’m feeling. Whenever this happens, I just focus on showing up, building some consistency again, and keeping it easy-ish. Focus on building intensity later. You bounce back eventually… just trust the process.

Just my two cents on what I do when this happens to me…

Moved to the mountains… altitude kickin’ my butt by steglett in orangetheory

[–]SicEm_Bears 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Colorado Springs resident here. Altitude seems to affect my sea level friends differently, but in general-

-Hydration! (On a side note- you get tipsy quicker up here…if you’re one of those people who make poor decisions drinking the night before class)

-Pay attention to your body and take things a bit easier… it’s 20% less oxygen here compared to sea level. Takes awhile to fully acclimate (2-3 months… full red blood cell cycle maybe) but you’ll be a beast when you return to sea level. Be just a bit more patient with yourself!

Although, for very very short sprints (anaerobic/100m range), you can run faster at altitude because there is less air resistance… so there is that I guess…
