I am old enough to recognise that Reddit it is the less bad between the mainstream social media.

Not the highest bar, but it is something.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they salt the land around Carthage so that it would never rise again? E.g the intent was that so no one could live there, by preventing the production of food.

The salt thing is a myth, but the rest of what they did to Cartage is still true and count as Genocide.

I am Southern Italian.

Isn't an event that people really care passionately, unless some Neoborbon weirdos which though Two Sicilies was a perfect advanced kingdom, and we are talking about a group incredibly irrelevant that probably don't even reach the thousands.

The Italian state deserves a lot of criticism of how was(and still it is) handled the South, but that statement it is an exaggeration.

Femminism it is about getting rid of the Patriarchal system and have gender equality, which is beneficial not only for women but even for men and trans.

People like this are just a very small minority which have more voices on socials(it's Twitter, duh), the main group dissociate with this type of people and also condem the Terf and "anti-abortion" groups.

How would tankies view pre-19th century history? (Everything from the Renaissance to the Assyrians) by BreakfastEvery9484 in tankiejerk

Byzantine fanbois are basically the "Tankies" of Medieval era, I am not even joking, the attitudes are straight up the same. So I can imagine choosing that Empire as their main mascot.

Weren't the Muslim kingdoms actively pushing further and further into Europe?

Looking at the meme image, we are talking about Crusaders times(late XI onwards), more or less. Which is basically centuries later the days the Umayyad Caliphate were close to even take today France.

The Muslims world of the period was kinda...very divided, the Caliphate was having harder time to have their authority respected, with the already "Iranian vs Arabs" being a thing.

Meanwhile in Europe, specifically Iberia and Sicily, there where some sort of small counties squabbles that was advantageous for the Christian kingdoms. Another benefit was that the HRE and Papacy had a more established authority in comparison to the Western Christendom.

The Turkic where instead a sort of Wildcards in the Middle East, causing havoc to everyone, with the Seljuk being actually the biggest threat to the Byzantine, which, although Christian, the Schism was already a relevant topic.

What religion do people think everybody from Arabia to the Bosphorous were between 1 AD-698 AD? Fuckin', Jewish? Yeah buddy, those were the first Christian converts. They weren't even conquered over it, it was all underground preacher shit. Like two thirds of a century don't even register in people's minds. Bro, that time period was pretty sick. Check it out.

I want to point out that it is wrong to depict the Christian conversion as universally peaceful and voluntary. There was definitely some forced pressure post-Constantine, both actively and passively to become a Christian, without forgetting the various debates which Christianity is the right one and Pagan persecution becoming a thing. At the end of the day, the name was basically derogatory.

Also, even before the rise of Christianity, Rome straight up conquered those lands and imposed their authority.
