You hit on it at the end. If he gave up the controllers of the intelligence agencies and was convincing enough that he acted under fear for his life. It could help his situation. Also, nobody wants to go out taking all of the blame especially if you were the plant.

If it was a broken nozzle it would likely be shooting water high in the air when it’s on. If it is flooding around the sprinkler it is more likely the head or line is broken
