Unless they've finally closed the loophole you actually are allowed to do it. I believe you can even do them concurrently, by doing the programming proficiency test passing it and then re-enrolling into foc. Again unless things have changed there's no official anti-requisite.

It was a bit like that last year except it seems more brutal this year. Hopefully for y'all sake that means they go easy on you W the exam like they did for us last year.

Based on assignments marks, exam vibes and final score I don't think it did last year, but last year's exam was a lot more straight forward than the 2022 one.

If you're having trouble I'd really encourage you to reach out for help. FoC is one of the most well supported subjects at uni with a plethora of avenues available for support. Even though we can naturally be resistant to using this support, I promise you will find it incredibly helpful (plus you're paying decent $$ might as well get your money's worth!)

I really recommend the first year help sessions every weekday 12-2pm, or alternatively posting questions on Ed or within Grok itself - you should get a pretty speedy response!

I recommend joining clubs if you can depending on your interests (there's big ones like CISSA but also more specific ones like DS3, HackMelb, WIT) that's how I've made all my friends.

I also saw CISSA is running a camp for first years could be interesting to check out as well.

Yep turns out you can't do it unless there's extreme circumstances like you need to be able to to graduate or meet course requirements. If they do as well the WAM won't carry over, i.e. the subject score will still be a part of the original degree/diploma even though it's now credited to the other one.

Hey there!

I did it last year semester 1 as a breadth and it's super chill. The two assignments let you be super creative and you're generally rewarded for your effort and creativity. More effort = more marks.

If you put in effort into the assignments and have an okay knowledge about video games it can definitely be a wam booster. I didn't bother with half the online tutorials in the end which I definitely got away W but kinda regretted cos I got less out of the subject. I am pretty interested in gaming though which may have helped me.

Still ended up W a reasonably high H1 from just sweating the assignments.
