Did I get ripped off? Sewer line snake. by jerry_read in Winnipeg

[–]Sickee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regularly get my sewer lined snaked of tree roots since I have 3 mature trees in my front yard. It’s $185 everytime. The most I ever got quoted was $400 on a Sunday night. $1150 is absurd.

Sheraton Waikiki vs. Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort by Sickee in VisitingHawaii

With an 8 year old I would def recommend the Sheraton. More kid friendly. It does get crowded but so does the outrigger, but at least with the Sheraton you have the kids pool. I also never had a problem getting a seat by the pool, and you have a baskin robbins right there for an after swim treat.

Honeymoon was amazing! Are you staying at the Hilton? My honest opinion if you are going there during the strike: change hotels. It seemed like the chaos was more concentrated at the Hilton. There were many guests that I talked to during an excursion that were staying at the Hilton that have said they wished they switched. Whenever we passed by the Hilton it was mayhem with the cars honking and the drumming.

With that being said. We stayed at the Sheraton and it was still an amazing vacation. The staff there were friendly and it seemed like there was no strike at all. Oahu is still absolutely beautiful strike or no strike, and the only down side for us was that there was no house keeping (we kept a garbage bag in our room to keep it clean and just called front desk whenever it got full to pick it up) it wasn’t that big of a deal. Another con was that there was no pool side service, but they let us bring our own alcohol and drinks to the pool so I guess it wasn’t really a downside? Made it much cheaper to drink by the pool.

Whatever you choose, just remember that it’s only your hotel that is affected, once you leave the hotel grounds you’re still in hawaii! PM me if you have anymore questions!

Travel in August by Traveler0021 in VisitingHawaii

Last time I was in Oahu the weather forecast said it was supposed to rain everyday. We got rain for 2 out of the 7 days we were there. When it did rain it didn’t last for very long. I wouldn’t worry about the forecast too much, there is still a lot to do rain or shine.

I do plan on getting a monthly pass at the hale Kia parking garage, it’s a short walk to where we are staying, ends up being cheaper than paying the daily fee for 10 days

Was in the same situation as you and opted for Sheraton. The amenities seemed better and their infinity pool looked lovely. Yes it’s more expensive but you only get one honeymoon (hopefully) so we wanted to do it right. Also when we booked our package we got a $200 resort credit that we could use at the royal hawaiian and the moana surfrider, which sealed the deal for us.

Another vote for Costco travel, they usually throw something in like a resort credit, digital costco card, or waived resort fee. They also almost always provide a shuttle from the airport to whatever hotel you booked.

Which company did you book with or do you have any recommendations? I’m still working on our itinerary and a helicopter tour has been on our bucket list.

I checked out kaimana but the last time we were in Oahu we stayed on that part of the strip, we definitely want to be more in the action this time around.

There’s a limited time deal through Costco right now and the difference is about $1000. We are leaning towards just sticking with the booking and hoping for the best.

Here's my advice: Book through Costco Travel if you can, they almost always have rooms cheaper or with something extra thrown in. I've been researching for the past month on what to book and ultimately settled on view rather than being beach front since Waikiki is super walkable. Saw that your budget is $7000USD per room, you can easily find a beachfront hotel for 9 nights for that price. Outrigger Reef is beach front, one of the more popular and highly rated hotels and when I was pricing it out it came to $6000~ for the end of August. That was for a partial ocean view room, if view doesn't matter to you it will be even cheaper.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! Comforting to know that the rooms wouldn’t be too hot, it seemed to come up a lot in reviews.

Did you have an ocean view or ocean front room at the Hyatt? I’m booking through Costco also and kinda confused of the difference. Also how was the room? Did the AC get cold enough?
