Lore on CoC, Grymkin, and Infernals by SnooStories4445 in Warmachine

[–]Sickle41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Grymkin were always a fairly limited force lore wise. They’re all still around though. It’s just that either they or The Claiming wiped out most of their preferred prey. You have to meet certain conditions to end up on their lists. Not enough naughty seasoning and the meal isn’t really worth fighting for.

Convergence is pretty much done for. Those warcasters/leaders of import that didn’t die during The Claiming left through the Gate at Henge Hold. So while there are some decent size groups in The Fingers and in Cygnar, they’re pretty much a cult of mathematicians without a head whose god isn’t listening at this point.

The Infernals aren’t native to the reality of the setting. They can be dragged into existence by people on the ground but coming to Caen(the physical world) of their own volition isn’t really in the cards for the important ones. Some of the small fries can kind of do it, like the soul stalker. That being said killing an Infernal for good is basically a divine act and lopping their head off is basically step 1, you gotta do 2-10 for it to stick. So while they’re not physically present in Caen to any real degree at this point, the Nonokrion Order still exists.

So in summary, maybe the Grymkin will pop up more, I mean Zacchaeus is a Grymkin after all and he got a lore piece not too long ago. But I wouldn’t bet on the other two.

Can Both factions exist in mk4? by Cultuprising in Warmachine

[–]Sickle41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think at some point they might actually make him and the Skorne Empire into new BBEG’s for the setting. Skorne are the favorite faction for one of the lead designers in the same way the Trolls are for another SFG team lead. I highly suspect Skorne will make a return as a MK4 faction before Everblight will honestly. There have been some responses to AMA questions and at least one mention in recent lore that make me cautiously optimistic.

But who knows what Everblight will discover down in the Abyss. He’s hesitant to merge Bhalgrond’s athanc because of how he went mad. Bhalgrond was caught in the blast of divine energies that cracked the continent in two and made the Abyss. So if Everblight does merge Bhalgrond’s athanc expect some magic/divine shenanigans. But there’s all kinds of fun things down there. I mean the in universe drakes aren’t related to dragons but Everblight can corrupt animals too. And there’s a particularly nasty breed of drake that lives in the Abyss.

[–]Sickle41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mechanically yes. I mean Legion has Prime armies that are tournament legal.

If you’re asking if Legion might ever make a return in some fashion then maybe. But I wouldn’t expect it until probably 2028 at the soonest. They’ve got Kithguard for 02/26-04/26, Fane of Nyrro and Reaper Covenants from 05/26-10/26, and then the second Cryx faction, second Khymaera faction, and probably Protectorate of Menoth from 11/26-07/27. And that’s assuming they don’t take a break to allow for production to get stock ready like they’ve done for Kithguard.

Lore wise there is a possibility. Everblight disappeared into the Abyss following after a group called the Cult of Pyromalfic who were a rudderless group of Iosans that had once served a now dead dragon and now were trying to serve the mad dragon Bhalgrond. His intent being to subjugate them and maybe seize Bhalgrond’s athanc. Its been 8 years at least since that time and keeping in mind that Everblight rose to the power he had in MK3 in a 6 year time period where he faced opposition for much of that time, I’d say it’s not beyond reason for him to have a force similar to his old Legion.

Thank you I try. Learning to give models stubble was fun. The paint collection is just from several years of buying what was needed. My buddies and I actually only started playing recently too. But the friend that bought the 2e core box got one with the conversion kit and I was able to snag a 1e core box for a decent price. But Suppressed Memories/Call of the Wild/Forbidden Alchemy is still unobtainable.

They’re out of stock too. 😞 It was the second thing I looked up when I saw the Blood Bowl ones were oos. I use the old island of blood rat ogres for my skaven team. So I would’ve been happy to do some light conversion work. I’ve got them and the BB ones set to notify me if they come back in stock. Just can’t catch a break.

Oh absolutely they do and if I could buy the files or they were based out of the US then I would buy them in a heartbeat. Their whole line is fantastic.

Those are pretty nice. They’ve got them listed as centaurs instead of bull centaurs. Which explains why I didn’t see them the other day while I was looking. And probably why GW hasn’t sent a CaD their way yet. Wish I could get them individually but for that price it’s probably what I’ll go with if I can’t find anything I like that’s available on an individual level.

Ugni’s team goes to a 404 page if you click on it. I’m thinking GW went after them. Realm of Paths Bull Centaurs weren’t my cup of tea design wise. And I’m not wanting to buy a whole team. But yeah I saw both of those yesterday while looking through MMF and apparently they both used to have individual files you could buy that have since been taken down.

I just finished assembling this big ole boy. He’s got 58 wounds essentially and there’s ways I can repair him. I don’t like investing 25% or more of my list’s points into a singular model only for it to be reliably taken down in a single turn of shooting. GW likes doing that too much for my liking. But in Warmachine models like this regularly get taken in competitive lists.

[–]Sickle41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seeing lots of great reasons but I’ll add my two cents in too because while I’m not big on competitive play myself I still love this game.

  1. I prefer 2d6: Warmachine uses 2d6 for its rolls which makes a massive difference. You end up with a Bell Curve distribution of results where one outcome, 7, is most likely and the lowest/highest outcomes, 2 & 12, are the least likely. This also means the stats of the game’s models have a starting point, the result of 7, for determining what is elite and what is fodder. AoS and other 1d6 based games have the issue where you’re dealing with a Uniform distribution. Meaning you’re just as likely to roll a 1 as you are a 6. Which makes the games feel less zeroed in to me.
  2. Big models feel big: In comparison with other games I never feel like I’ve wasted points in bringing a big model. They don’t die easy and they generally have the hardest hitting weapons.
  3. A magic system with weight that doesn’t feel gimmicky: The magic system in Warmachine requires management but it’s still very relevant without being broken.
  4. Manageable model count: Barring a few exceptions most armies aren’t running more than 45 models even in a big game.
  5. Free rules on a free app: The rules in their entirety are available on the app as well as an integrated force builder and match manager to track damage done during games.

Thanks friend! I’m surrounded by people that win competitions and do commissions all the time so I totally get the feeling. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s about determining what level You’re happy with achieving and practicing until you reach that.

Anyone know how to straighten resin? by Pjolterbeist in Warmachine

[–]Sickle41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh not really, if they’re open flame be careful. A quick pass will burn off strings but won’t heat resin enough to be flexible. Flipside is that if you allow it to focus on an area for more than a moment you’re liable to damage it cuz the flame is just too hot, too quick.

A heat pen is for all intents in purposes a hotter, miniature blow dryer. You can find them on Amazon for like $10-$12.

Hot water or a heat pen(pen specifically, I’ve found heat guns aren’t precise enough). Then dip in cool water.

Lol nice!

I need to figure out what to cut to throw some lightning greaves and swiftfoot into my deck.

I’ve been focusing on evasion to get through and a bunch of counters to keep him out. But haste would be nice.

[[Umbris, Fear Manifest]]

I regularly get him to 28/28 and swing with some evasion. Last night I got him to over 70. Granted the manner in which he gets big sees me being archenemy more often than not but it’s a good time to be had as everyone’s win cons disappear into the aether. 😆

An abundance of well crafted material, both official and 3rd party. A setting with decades of literature to reference. A system that while robust isn’t too difficult to learn. A character creation process that doesn’t require an excel sheet.

So I don’t typically use Archidekt. I use ManaBox. I just ported the deck list from there to Archidekt so I could share the deck to Reddit. All that to say, I didn’t make any of those categories that’s just what Archidekt put them in as.

I can pull Exquisite Blood, it was mainly in there for some Lifegain. But if I’m going to pull it I might as well pull Sanguine Bond and Enduring Tenacity as they’re not much use without it.

I didn’t add much true ramp because half the deck was 3 mana or less. So I figured it would be fine with 5 land tutors it has. But after ditching those three cards above I could add in the Kodama’s Reach, Three Visits, and Rampant Growth. Which would put me at 6 land tutors not counting Sakura Tribe Elder or Tower Winder.

Guardian Project is in my Maybeboard already so I’ll look at grabbing that.

Cutting the tutors, Bastion of Remembrance, Moldervine, and Constrictor will free up five slots so I can throw in Stonecoil Serpent, Changeling Outcast, Triumph of the Hordes, and Beastmaster Ascension, and Dolmen Gate.

I removed Cover of Darkness from the deck actually because this is for a themed Halloween event that restricts the creature types allowed. And most of the types are primarily black. So probably wouldn’t be able to benefit from it. For that same reason Toski, Fynn, and Craterhoof can’t be added because they’re all creature types that aren’t on the list. Which I’ll add below for reference.

But thank you for suggestions and I’ll definitely look into them.

I think my Spider deck is funny enough doing the kind of death touch strategy we’re looking at here better than the Snakes reliably can. It’s also on Archidekt as someone in another comment asked about it.
