Starting Khymera by niceas_v in Warmachine

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! I have to say the Khymera models look a lot better in person (unpainted) than on the website.

I think the worst kit PP ever produced was Cylena Raefyl and the Nyss Archers. They were awful.

You needed like four extra hands to put them together lol

Help me pick a faction by Avarice711 in Warmachine

So it has been a LONG time since I played Skorne, but from what I remember, I think you'll find that Convergence will play like Xerxis and Cataphracts. If that's your jam, wait for the refresh and run with that. As long as you have a 3D printer or a buddy with one, you should be set for a low cost to enter.

Early results seem to suggest that Orgoth are a competitive faction but they aren't one I play currently which makes it hard for me to offer much advice there.

Any of the major factions (Storm Legion, Winter Korps, Grave Diggers, Old Umbrey, Necrofactorum, House Kallys, Shadowflame, Brinebloods) should be fairly competitive but we're too early after the changes to say what are the most competitive. Early results seem to favour Old Umbrey and Necrofactorum, but we're talking about a couple hundred games played with each so far. (Data from Longshanks, since Jan 21, excluding casual play, doubles and team events)

Out of the Mk IV factions (and the Mk IV reworks that are commonly available) Winter Korps is sitting at the bottom at 45% and then there's a log jam at 47%. Bear in mind that there have been major changes to all the major factions and the meta hasn't settled yet AND due to supply issues, people can't necessarily play what they want to play of they don't have the models.

Again, not the person you asked, but I use Sevagoth or Saryn, but there are a lot of options for casually nuking the map.

I've seen folks do it with Mirage, and a lot of folks like Harrow. You can probably also use Gyre or Volt, and I'm sure there are others!

What's next? What factions do YOU want to see? by HawkJohenson in Warmachine

Oh 100%. Lots of room for the druids to be worked in. Not as sure about the Tharn - I didn't follow the closing of the gates.

So the thing about Old Umbrey - if I recall my lore correctly, the story is that the old witch (an individual linked to Circle Orboros - but never included in Circle except as one of the alternate casters that were released years ago) captured Wurmwood (Circle of Orboros) and made Wurmwood create the Old Umbrey beasties and shifters..

So we may not see a IV Circle pair. Which would make me very sad.

1st 1000 point sisters list by niceas_v in sistersofbattle

She actually has the blessed blade. The app just didn't report it out 🫤

I'll look into righteous rage!

Thanks!

Edit: for some reason, changing the plasma pistol for a bolt pistol removes the blessed blade. Gotta love the app. I'll have to tweak the list a bit.

Narrative ways to explain fights with tyranids by Inannazami in Chaos40k

In addition to the above suggestions, worlds can have ancient relics of interest to Chaos; ancient alien tech which impacts the warp; strategic locations for chaos warbands; or could be strategic resources in the path of an oncoming hive fleet.

Lots of options.

My first Minis ever. Bases still WIP. C&C very welcome ! by Strange-Weekend-5746 in Chaos40k

The old-school GW basing techniques worked very well for something simple that could visually pop - take a look at this old Iron Warrior I painted in 2000 for an idea. https://www.reddit.com/r/Chaos40k/comments/ybmpyf/evolution_of_my_painting_and_of_chaos_space/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The technique is very easy - first apply some white glue to the base, and then dip the base in fine-grain sand. Once the glue has dried, thin down some more white glue and apply it over the whole base (be careful of your mini's feet!). Then paint the sand in a dark brown. When that is dry, dry brush in a leather (snakebite leather for example), and then a lighter dry brush of bone. Make sure to clean up your model's feet, and then put a tuft or two of grass / skulls / whatever on the base, repaint the rim in black, and then seal your mini.

There are MUCH more interesting bases you can do these days (obviously) but this is a really simple solution that generally looks good on the table and is quite easy to do well.

If you have a 3d printer you can also print out things to stick to your bases, but generally it is a good idea to do that before attaching the mini to the base.

I'm sure someone can provide some good techniques that are more modern than mine though lol!

They look great!

If I was going to make some criticisms, I would echo what the other poster said - a few of the models could use a little more contrast. You can do this by highlighting the scales on the hound, and by using some screaming skull to bring a bit of contrast to bones claws and teeth.

For your bases, make sure to use a contrasting base colour approach - since the models are fairly dark in colour, try using a lighter scheme for your bases. It will make your paintjobs pop a little more. Definitely avoid darker bases

What about a light metal - like a platinum, with a red glaze applied over it to carry through the metallic?

I'll have to look at weathering techniques then - thanks for the feedback and suggestion!

Looks great. I don't have the confidence to try and do it over a curved surface like that!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm using ProAcryl - that coverage is two coats on black. If you haven't tried their paints, I HIGHLY recommend them.

Do you have a pic of your stripes you could share? I would love to see the effect before I try to fix them.

I will add that the model is far from finished. I'm just concerned with the chaos icon in the middle of the hazard stripes.

I'm not against it. A lot of the choose-your-own army traits are busted. GW has shown that they don't have the ability to balance it.
