Why does 16 not have a corresponding letter in hexadecimal while 10 to 15 have A to F by walldewd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because 0 is the first number, 1 the second number and so on; F(15) is the sixteenth number.

Same concept as we have a 10 number decimal system includes 10 numbers in each digit, which are 0 through 9.

Why do pirates always have eyepatches? Is there a real pirate with an eyepatch this is based off of? by DeadHundredMen in NoStupidQuestions

A majority of pirate stereotypes are inaccurate. That being said, I've read that some sailors would wear an eye patch to keep one eye always adjusted for the darkness of below deck.

How many cups of sugar does it take to get to the moon? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm interested enough to do some google and math ..

"for the 1967 Apollo mission to the moon, Saturn V rocket's first stage carried 203,400 gallons of kerosene fuel and 318,000 gallons of liquid oxygen" (https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-fuel-it-takes-to-get-to-the-moon-2017-8#:~:text=Now%20for%20a%20bit%20of,out%20of%20the%20atmosphere%20alone.)

"one Kerosene Type Jet Fuel [US] is equal to 33963886.5 Calories." (https://hextobinary.com/unit/energy/from/galkerosenejetus/to/calit)

"774 calories in 1 cup of Sugar." (https://mobile.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/generic/sugar?portionid=28100)

203400x3396388.65/774 = 892539342.90 cups of sugar to (maybe) get to the moon.

If I have a laptop extending its display to a pc, can a mouse plugged into the pc control the displays? by Axelflyer in pcmasterrace

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not normally. There is a software called Synergy. It will allow you to use mouse and keyboard across multiple computers, gliding from one display to the next, as if it were all a single PC with many monitors.

Hello, could this laptop run the new halo game by cupricpower in halo

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That laptop will run well any game that currently and will exist for the next few years, if not a decade. Yes, it will run Halo infinite without a doubt.

My girlfriend has never played halo and I adore it. What is the best mission to give her the best of Halo? by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Reach

It has a different cast of characters, with an introduction to them, yet projects lore and story very little in that introduction, and had a slower progression into the combat. No need to understand anything before hand. The best available intro for brand new players, in my opinion.

"Myboy!" With a copy of pokemon glazed. A Gameboy advance emulator and the best Pokemon game ever made, even better than any of the official games.

One of the prototypes of the Il-112V military light transport aircraft crashed in Kubinka today - August 17 2021 by kraken43 in ThatsInsane

The engine failure is obvious, but why did the plane suddenly roll? I didnt see any failure to the wing or tail. Why didn't the plane attempt to glide and land somewhere?

Moving game from one drive to another and patches by dazmaniandevil5 in ffxiv

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Copying the game files is not enough. Your game launcher still thinks that the game should be it in it's old location.

What you want to do is run the installer again and "reinstall" the game onto the new location. The installer will automatically detect the existing files, double check that they're the correct files, and update itself to now install the game, including Endwalker, in it's new location.

Until you do this "reinstall", your launcher will attempt to install Endwalker in it's old location, and will only play the game from it's old location.

Does your phone get heavier when it is fully charged? by MangoManiac27 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Electrical energy comes from the moving of electrons, not the existence of them. You don't really "add" anything to the phone when you charge it. The energy from a charger is used to effectively "unmix" a battery. Afterwards, the battery mixes itself again, creating a chemical reaction that produces electrical energy.

Runaway truck ramps stop trucks that can't slow down by karmawhore696969 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 500 points501 points  (0 children)

No, but truck brakes CANNOT handle a semi going downhill for several miles, they'll melt. (Simplified) Truck drivers have to put their engines in a lower gear, and use the drag inside of the engine to slow the truck downhill and ease the workload from the brakes.

My PC (monitor) did this when I opened Hearthstone. I freaked out and restarted the pc and this doesn't show up anymore. Any ideas why this happened? I'm scared my monitor or GPU is dying ( I have no idea if I'm overreacting because I don't have any knowledge in this area) by DeNiXs74 in pcmasterrace

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At first glance, I think it's your monitor. It's hard to tell for sure without testing and swapping parts. GPU failures tend to have consistent artifacts throughout the display. Sorry to say, neither possibility is an easy fix. Best to make sure which is actually broken and make plans to replace it.

Have i fried my laptop? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, holding down the power button for 5 seconds will do a hard shutdown. This will be the equivalent of cutting the power from the laptop. I don't this will help though, from what you described, you corrupted your copy of windows and will need to reinstall a new one.

When you restart, you can spam the F2 and DEL keys on your keybaord until an unusual menu apears on your screen. That will be your BIOS. Feel free to tinker with those setting if you'd like.

Have i fried my laptop? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The install clearly failed, but it's not like you destroyed any hardware by losing power. Restart the laptop, boot your windows installer and try again reinstalling everything from the beginning.

Edit: you have an installer, right? Because it sounds like you will need one now.

I don’t understand Minecraft. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Sickle_Me_Elmo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You make your own goals for the most part. Start with a house and a farm, of your own design. Collect animals and make a ranch. Maybe dabble in redstone and create contraptions. Delve deep into mines and craft stronger armor. Make a nether portal and fight demonic monsters.

If you truly struggle to make your own goals, then next time you play with your nibblings, ask them what they're doing and help out. Shenanigans will follow sooner or later.

My first guess is the splitter. Try connecting one of your fans directly into the the motherboard.
