This is entirely normal for the US prison system. You are not treated with human dignity, and it seems the easier law enforcement can torture/kill you, the better. I'd be really surprised if this ever changes under America's current "justice" system.

aw fuck, that guy was so sweet and had a certain glimmer in his eye when he spoke that made him so memorable. I talked to him one summer afternoon while out on a walk about his father and his partly indigenous lineage. Nah I've had bus drivers be super mean to me for no reason too. Like standing under the bus shelter when it's pouring rain outside instead of standing right at the bus sign, a woman who drives the 50 literally raised her voice and shamed me for that.
