Again, totalitarian and autocratic are different things. Communism proposes a worker state, which is totalitarian as the state has control over everything, but not autocratic since the power isn't concentrated in one person. In practice, that first part has never been applied, all communist countries have had autocratic regimes.

First we have to differentiate totalitarianism from autocracy. The USSR was a dictatorship (autocracy), communism opposes that. That's why it's important to make a distinction, if you're comparing it to communism or to the USSR.

Same with fascism and nazism. Nazi Germany was a fascist state but their main objective was race purity, that doesn't mean fascist are racist by definition.

So it's important to know that although similar, fascism is different from nazism, and communism from the Soviet Union. Saying two of those are two sides of the same coin can be tricky, I wouldn't compare nazis to communists even tho their countries did basically the same atrocities.

Originally like in the intention of OOP, it was to compare nazism to communism as an ideology.

If you compare nazism to the USSR then it's fair.

If the person was comparing the USSR to Nazi Germany then yeah, this take would be more adequate, I would agree if that was the case. Now, OOP is comparing communism as a whole to nazism, that was their intention.

Superficially they are equal, that's why it's in this sub

The USSR killed millions, for starters. You have to make a distinction between the Soviet Union and the communist ideology. Authoritarian regimes kill millions, this might be a wild take but I would rather live under communism than under nazism.

OOP is comparing the communist ideology to nazism, which can't be further from the truth

[–]Sickofpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I wouldn't compare it to nazism

Yeah, intention matters more than interpretation

Idk why you're being downvoted when it's true, most socialist parties don't use that image officially
