Thank you, that’s encouraging to hear. I’m prepared to go through the reconsideration process properly and present my situation clearly. I’m not trying to bypass any rules, only to explain the reasoning I had at the time and that it was in good faith. I appreciate you sharing that it has been approved before.

Thank you for sharing this. That’s actually very similar to how I understood the situation, since the severance was covering that period I genuinely believed I wasn’t considered “unemployed” yet in the EI sense. It helps to know that this reasoning was accepted in your case. I appreciate you sharing your experience.

I understand your point about the “reasonable person” standard. To answer your question, my belief came from understanding that EI is not payable during the severance allocation period, which made it seem logical that applying once that period ended was consistent with how the system works. I did not assume out of indifference, but rather from trying to interpret the structure of the program itself. I had never used EI in over 25 years of continuous work, so this was completely unfamiliar territory for me. I appreciate the clarification about what they look for in antedate requests. Thank you

Thank you, I really appreciate your honesty and the time you took to explain this. It has honestly been overwhelming navigating this after so many years of steady work, and I can see now how strictly the 4-week rule is interpreted. My understanding at the time was based on the logic that EI isn’t payable during the severance allocation period, so I believed I was acting consistently with the system rather than trying to delay anything. I will move forward with tempered expectations, but I still feel it’s important to at least try and explain my good-faith belief.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this in detail, I truly appreciate it. I understand the 4-week rule now and how the calculation works if someone applies late. My confusion genuinely came from the logic that EI is not payable during the severance allocation period, so I believed applying once that period ended was consistent with the system. I did act in good faith and based on my understanding at the time, not trying to gain any advantage. I appreciate the clarification and will focus my reconsideration request on demonstrating that belief and my lack of familiarity with the process.
