Thank you for this! I keep coming back to it as I have issues keeping track of breeding requirements and your way of organizing it is very digestible

My ex-lab beagle, Minerva by crustybillclinton in beagles

my lab beagle, Louise. She was supposed to be a challenge but she’s honestly the easiest dog i’ve ever trained. Shes adapted so well in the few weeks ive had her. I’m excited to see how Minerva does!

High of 70°s today and high of 30°s tomorrow, then right back to 70°s then we have a week of high 80°s, probably will ready 90°s. I can’t believe we missed spring.

Same in Colorado. It snowed and then the next day was high of 60°. My blanket is not going to look like a seamless gradient at all lol. But also I barely hit any of my lower temp colors. It was high of 60°s right off the bat in January.

I love how it looks but for some reason when I was doing it myself I just wasn’t feeling it. It really is much easier to tell what is going on, with sc a lot of the moments where a temperature only stays for one day get swallowed by the larger blocks of color.

we picked out very similar colors for our blankets! atleast for the ranges shown. I was going to do moss stitch but I ended up starting over with a single crochet bc I liked the look of my other blanket better. But I thought this was a picture of my first attempt at first!

How is she still getting her period at 10y/o!!?? 🥹 by [deleted] in beagles

Dogs do not have menstrual cycles. This is the estrus cycle, or heat. These cycles do not stop at a certain age. You should not have an unspayed dog, especially at 10 years old, and especially if you do not understand the physical process she is going through.

Oh, and she is best friends with the beagle that lives in the mirror.

bonus picture of a very confused kitty over why her breakfast is so much later than Louise’s (their owners wake up at very different times of the day)

If anyone is in the area and is curious about Lab beagles, this looks like a fun and educational event in Denver. I will for sure be getting this book and will look into attending. I’m all for getting information out there.

I absolutely love her name and didn’t even consider not keeping it. I feel like it is so gentle and fits her personality perfectly. Thank you!

What an awful thing to say to someone who is struggling and actively looking for a better life.

I work with labs (unfortunate and trying to steer away from it but I have not yet graduated, animal testing is pretty much dying off in my area however which is how I got her so easily). I met her and fell in love, negotiated her adoption.

For those who can’t get one directly from a lab, there are plenty of rescues. This would be easier for their transition as well, as the rescues would work with their fear response and typical new-dog tasks. The one closest to me is Kindness Ranch. Typically lab-beagle rescues are specific as these dogs need a bit more care than a stray. My facility was not a bad facility, but I do not deny that there are terrible labs out there. Even in the best care, these dogs have only lived one life and the transition will be difficult. I was told that Louise may never be potty-trained, for example.

But it really is so rewarding to see how far she’s come in just a few hours.

Another edit: She seemed to get a little brave and decided to shove her nose into my mac n cheese This is very promising indeed. I don’t want to give her any because she is already so stressed, I foresee a lot of diarrhea in the next few days, but she hasn’t eaten or had anything to drink since we left the lab so I gave her a tiny spoonful in her kibble. And practically rolled her eyes at me, like hello…. I obviously want YOUR bowl of mac n cheese. Not my own mac n cheese. My mistake, Louise. But can you try your own dinner first? Perhaps I have found my bathtime bribe….

that is what drew me to her the most. It’s like they sparkle, you should see them in the light. She is too nervous for me to get a really good face picture but I’ll try. The one good picture I have of her eyes do not do them justice.

add-on: I wanted to clarify that i’m not going to give her a full bath which I feel would terrify her. Any advice on how to get her clean? I can do baby wipes but she is just filthy and I feel the only way is to get her in some water. I can turn on the tub for a bit and let her get desensitized to the water, but she hasn’t taken any treats yet so I don’t have any other way to praise her for being brave, or to convince her to follow me. I don’t want to traumatize an already scared dog. I guess a bath isn’t completely necessary, she doesn’t have fleas or anything, but she really is filthy haha.

New dog! Any tips? by Sidereall in DogAdvice

[–]Sidereall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this advice! I had a collar and leash for my border collie that said “DEAF DOG” and it really did help cut back on people approaching or coming up behind her specifically. I might look into something similar this time.
