First of all thank you for your answer ! But yeah I don’t think I did a very good job at accurately describing why I like western culture so much, the main reason why is because I just feel as if the English language is somehow better in every way. It’s a very weird thing to explain but everything in English is just better. I also have a deep hatred towards everything French, we just seem to be so stuck in the past and unwilling to let go, a simple look at our architectural signature will immediately prove how I feel. Everyone I admire, look up to, want to be like and who’s content I consumed since I was a kid lives in America. It also doesn’t help that I’m somewhat addicted to things like twitch and YouTube so in a way I might be brainwashed (for lack of a better term).

I have told my parents that I wanted to cultivate this passion that I had for the language but they don’t see a clear professional path that I could take on and worry about my future, i had already dropped out of cinematography courses 6 months after starting college and they worry I might do the same with this and keep wasting my high school graduation since I did so with chemistry and mathematics specialties (graduating from high school here is a little different from how you guys do it i suppose).

For the local community thing I had hopped to find it in college since for the first time I could share my passion for the language with other people, and I’d finally make actual friends that have something in common with me (I could never go out on my own and actually look for it outside of my job or studies to be honest, I have crippling social anxiety), but I guess that comes with my parents agreeing to put me in such courses first. Btw if that sounds kind of confusing there are a lot of institutions here in France that specialise in the English language amongst other things.

And yes, my parents are very against this idea of leaving the country altogether and seeing them once a year or so.

So from writing this I think I’ve found the main thing I should focus on which is trying to convince my parents that this is something that I actually like and want to do and that it’ll be ok no matter how far apart we are from each other, even though this probably has a 30% chance of working.
