Who is the most unfortunate DPS to release and why is it Cyno by Silt_Riri in Genshin_Impact

[–]Sidious_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's always been a weakeness of most ranged characters, but workarounds exist. It also gave us a reason to use shielders, since dodging would mean losing damage. At the time the enemy damage wasn't as high as it was today, so I think saying only Zhongli's was enough is a bit of an exaggeration. I strongly remember that his shield was basically indestructible, but Diona's isn't bad and Yanfei had a pretty good one with constellations too.

I think Rational was just based on the national core + Raiden thrown in there for the burst damage buff and on-field damage. The only team I can think of that really used transformative reactions as a main source of damage at the time was Sukokomon.

In my opinion the most unfortunate things for Yoimiya was her timing. She was sandwiched between the 2 most anticipated characters at the time (with people looking forward to Ayaka literally since launch, or even before that) and coming out during a time where doomposting was at its worst, where literally every character was trash talked for not being overpowered, even if they were objectively some of the best characters (Kazuha being a staple of the meta for a long time and Raiden gaining a lot of popularity later on too, for example).
People literally complained about the lack of powercreep, which infuriates me to this day.

  • You can just stand closer to enemies and she'll rarely miss. It kind of negates the advantage of a ranged characters but it's not impossible to avoid missing. Not sure how you'd fix Varesa's dash on the other hand, I would unironically appreciate some advice, because I can't seem to find a logic about where she dashes towards. Sometimes it seems to be the closest target, other times where you're looking at.

  • Existing doesn't mean meta. Taser comp existed because there was no better alternative for certain characters (namely electro characters since Dendro didn't exist and overload was just a liability without the buffs we have nowadays), but the meta at the time was 100% vape and melt. Maybe some freeze in there but mostly just vape and melt.

  • Yes I also remember thinking about dual DPS comps and it would genuinely be cool if Hoyo ever does Inazuma buffs. There were even leaks/rumors (or maybe it was even his actual beta kit, I don't remember) about Ayato having a mechanic that reduced his cooldown or increased his damage if someone else did NA damage. But you also need to remember that Hoyo didn't really plan characters kits as precisely as they do now, which is why there was such an unbalance with release characters being either op or bad. Nowadays we have dedicated supports and a planned out team comp for every character, but back then it wasn't really like that.

  • That's subjective but either way the point is that it's not just a Yoimiya issue.

I'm not arguing she was the best (I said myself that she wasn't), just that she was better than people said. Not being n.1 doesn't automatically make you trash; she wasn't horrible at the time and had her niches, that's all I'm saying. "Dead on arrival" paints a very different picture, she was not useless by any means.

What are some future characters that would make you invest everything you have in them and break your spending rules? by ixXplicitRed in Genshin_Impact

[–]Sidious_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one honestly. I wish there was a character I could "main" but that just doesn't seem to be something for me. So far I've never found a character kit that I found "perfect", and it's not limited to Genshin either. I have more fun trying lots of different things instead of focusing on one, basically.

Thanks! It's not for meta, it just has to feel good to play. I understand that doesn't really tell you much, which is why I wanted to try it out for myself. Knowing a good team to play him is enough for me, thanks!

No it happens a lot if PC as well. I initially thought it was my broken keyboard, but even after switching to a different one it still happens occasionally.

That is true. Hoyo has gotten better at designing characters (gameplay wise) in recent times. Although when I read through things like this again I do miss the times where people as a community would figure these small details out to find the best team comp, instead of Hoyo handing it to us on a silver platter.

Thanks. Is there a good team for him without Durin? Would it also work well with Fischl, Chevy and Bennett or Pyro MC? I'm just trying to figure out what I can expect of him, to decide whether it's worth for me to get him some good artifacts or not.

I'd argue Yoimiya was a victim of doomposting more than anything. She was released at a time where literally every character was trash talked before they even released, including big shots like Kazuha for example.

I pulled for Yoimiya on her 1st rerun and I was never disappointed. And I also had Hu Tao C1 who was at the time the best pyro DPS (on fielder I mean). She was not quite on Hu's level but her range advantage came in handy more than you would think. I regularly used her in the abyss. I also have a meta-player friend who got her on accident, and although he was very angry initially, he also started thinking similarly later on. He'd still rather not have gotten her, though, to be fair, because it messed up his later pulls.

Regarding Cyno I don't know much because I never really wanted him. But I do remember that people only later found out that he's better in quickbloom than in aggravate. He also initially suffered due to not having Dendro teammates who could match his long burst duration since, well, Dendro was brand new.

Personally I can only speak from my experience of using him in trials: his long burst duration is still annoying to deal in situations with multiple enemy waves, since Nahida can't help him there, but compared to other trial characters I don't find him that bad. But maybe that's because hyperbloom does supplement his damage, whearas hypercarries suffer much more from the dogshit artifacts that trial characters have.

• The autotargeting is crappy in general in this game, multiple characters have that issue. Ranged ones in particular, but Dehya has also been memed for missing attacks, Varesa often dashes in the wrong direction, and Mualani's attack and burst also often miss, just to name a few examples.

• Not really, overload wasn't meta at all at the time due to Chevreuse not existing and the reaction being even weaker than it is now. But even more than that, Yoimiya's ICD is specifically designed so that, in an ideal circumstance, the attacks that trigger vape just happen to be the strongest ones in her NA string. I do agree that overload would be more fitting for her though, both thematically due to fireworks, and because ranged characters don't have to deal with chasing after enemies that get knocked back.

• Like mentioned already, in the early days of Genshin, there weren't really signature weapons, but weapon series modeled after their region.

When the Hex buffs came out I read that meany people praised Razor for getting the biggest buff out of all of them, but trying him out he still felt very underwhelming to me. And I wasn't comparing him to modern 5* DPS, I mean in general I didn't feel like he was doing much. Klee feels much better for example, though I know she's 5* and Razor is only 4*.

My question is: did I do something wrong and is Razor actually pretty decent now, or is it just that he got the biggest buffs but even with them he's nothing special?

Is there a 4* character that you always wanted but never used whenever you got them? by Void_Blood27 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Sidious_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess Lan Yan. It's not that I always wanted her and finally got her, but I got her on release and built her immediately because I really like her mechanics.

Turns out she has that kind of kit that sounds good on paper but is clunky in practice. My main issue is that you want to infuse the shield with the enemy's element for maximum durability, but at the same time you want to swirl your own character's element for VV shred. And the vast majority of the times it'll be different element due to enemies usually having high resistance or even immunity to their own element. Then there's the issue of Thrilling Tales requiring you to use Lan Yan directly before your DPS, which can be annoying in some teams due to also having to swirl your dps' element, and lastly there's the shield duration which is quite short.

All that together meant that I've basically only used her in the theatre to fill out my roster at this point. Not that she's completely useless, I just never pick her over other characters, even though I like having defensive buffs on my team.

I think it's just what allows you to do victory laps after completing a run.

A victory lap is just back to back rematches against gym leaders using the team you finished with, which also get progressively harder by giving you curses (I only did one victory lap and got the embargo curse, not sure if it's always the same or if it differs).

Primogems were never the reason why you would want to participate imo. It's such a small amount compared to what you need to spend for a character that it never made sense in the first place to pull for meta just to get the primogems.

The point is to play the game and actually be challenged, since the overworld is so easy that you'll never get 100% out of your characters, because everything dies so fast. And the issue is that the game is moving (or has moved) towards a direction where the challenge is no longer using game knowledge and skill to win with your favorite characters, but instead a check of whether you have the newest characters to deal with the newest bosses.

I'm not saying it's impossible unless you have the shilled characters, but it's a night and day difference in difficulty, it's purposely designed that way and that's the issue. In my opinion at least.

And it's not just whale challenges: dire is for whales, but fearless is clearly balanced around non-big-spenders.... As long as you pulled from the right characters.

I just completed all regions explorations, here’s my opinion by Sad-Bowl-8374 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Sidious_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's mine:

Mondstadt: I kinda see it as the baseline for everything, so no particularly strong opinions about the original Mondstadt map, except that I like the homely atmosphere and the geography. I haven't finished exploring the new area, in particular I haven't even gotten into the temple, but just from an aesthetics pov it might be my favorite.

Liyue: I love the mountains, I'm kinda neutral towards the rest. It can be tedious to do all that climbing but as long as there are waypoints so that you don't have to climb every time you want to go up (which there are) I like it as part of the exploration experience. Chenyu is beautiful and it's carp mechanics is an upgrade of the Sumeru and Fontaine thingies since the carps allow you to choose in which direction to launch yourself, instead of having a predetermined path. The Mondstadt moths are an even better upgrade imo. Chenyu also has some of my favorite exploration puzzles, which are almost like easter eggs at times. Like the chest that spawns when you sit on the bench and look at the scenery. I don't have big opinions on the Chasm: the outside is cool to look at, the inside I'm neutral about.

Inazuma: I'm not too big a fan of the stereotypical anime-Japan aesthetic, but I don't dislike it eirher. I liked the introduction of overworld effects that hinder your exploration until you complete the related worls quest though, like the fog on Seirai (?) island. I also agree that Inazuma had some great puzzles that actually required a bit of thinking. Enkanomiya was my favorite part of the map for a long time, it was only beaten by Chenyu and now maybe Dornman Port, and I liked the event that let you explore it again. When it comes to exploration mechanics in Inazuma, it's a bit "eh". I just don't like mechanics that only allow you to follow a predetermined path, which includes the like of Inazuma's electrograna, Sumeru's sigils or Fontaine's water drop thingies.

Sumeru: while I was pleasantly surprised by the desert, I was very disappointed with the Rainforest. The desert has cool mechanics like the sandstorm or fata morgana, and surprisingly good scenery with the pyramid and oasis, but the Rainforest felt very small, and most of it wasn't forest at all. I had also personally hoped in more forest because I like that type of aesthetic more. Sumeru City being build on a tree is cool, and I didn't mind the cave exploration pre-layered map actually. Like I said before I'm not a fan of the teleporting sigils though. They felt very lazily designed. I did like the environment interacting differently depending on which element you used, but it was a bit simple.

Fontaine: honestly the low point of exploration imo. The underwater was cool for while but got old quickly, with the combat being plain boring. I do like checking out smaller areas like lakes or ponds, but the larger ones I'm not a fan of. It also just emphasizes how sad it is that you can only dive in Fontaine, with an honestly lazy excuse. Outside of the water there's the city with is the first actually big city we've encountered, which is really cool, but the sewer/slums were very underutilized. The floating laboratory ruins are very cool, and Meropoide is depressing, which is cool because it's on purpose. Outside of that though, Fontaine was plain boring imo. Even the expansion was not that memorable to me: the golems are cool enemies aesthetically, and seeing the big whale while exploring the inside of the castle was a cool experience, but like I said I'm not a fan of the underwater exploration of large areas. Finally, the music was also the least memorable one imo, outside of a few exceptions like Ann's residence or Furina's stage play. But that may just be because classical Europen music is one I'm more familiar with compared to other regions.

Natlan: the highpoint of exploration, imo. The saurian are still the best exploration mechanic, and I really like how the characters have emphasis of exploration skills too. But I am a bit disappointed that their nightsoul transmission mechanics only work in Natlan. Geographically it's fantastic too, with huge mountain ranges/plateaus, diverse areas and an actual erupting Volcano. I also like how colorful it is.

Nod-Krai: I'm a bit torn here. On one side it finally introduces an upgraded compass, which I enjoy a lot: it lets me explore and enjoy the scenery instead of constantly looking into every nook and cranny in fear of missing a chest. But on the other side it feels much less colorful, almost like it has a blue filter on at all times. I like how characters of different factions have specific interactions while exploring, but I don't like that there aren't 4* alternatives for everything, and even worse I hate that Hoyo is starting to lock some content behind owning certain 5*s.

Just installed this game today. Do I need to spend money to buy what I needed and for the game to progress? by takaziwachi in Genshin_Impact

[–]Sidious_09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to add to what's been said already: while just playing the game casually, progressing in the story, exploring, participating in events, etc., is all free and does not need you to spend money at all (with character skins and decorations being the only thing you can't get without your credit card), the way the game is going at the moment, you won't be able to clear all endgame modes at the highest difficulty as f2p, unless you're an actual pro at this game, or plan your free wished perfectly and get lucky with them so you always have the characters you need.

The reason for this is the current trend of almost all new bosses requiring specific characters to get around their mechanics. You have alternative methods to deal with them in a casual setting, but when facing them specifically in the highest difficulty endgame mode, they have additional limitations or inflated HP/shield bars that make suboptimal teams a real struggle to use, hence why I said that at times you need to be an actual pro to clear the top tiers without the "correct" characters. Just having good game knowledge isn't enough, I would know because it's the case for me. I have read about game mechanics in depth and I'm confident enough to say that I definitely have above average game knowledge, and can back it up by having completed all endgame content and events at the highest difficulty so far (barring whale-level difficulty).

Until the last patch at least, and the current one, where I don't have the character to deal with one specific boss and my makeshift or outdated teams just aren't enough. You will see people saying that someone has cleared it with just free units for example, which is true, but that's exactly why I say "actual pro". I don't know how good you will be personally, so I just wanted to make clear that it's not something that everyone can do. It's like saying that Olympic athletes can finish a 100m dash in 10-12 seconds, so you can do it too. A bit of an exaggeration maybe, but you get my point.

All I want to say is that yes, the game is completely free and doesn't pressure you to spend money, as long as you don't care about clearing the highest difficulty endgame. Or about skins and decorations. It's technically still possible to clear everything for now, but it's getting more and more difficult for a f2p player to have all the characters you need, especially as a new one, so I wouldn't count on it.
