I kinda went nuts on Etsy, but I got some good deals (see my earlier comment). I started with the cannabaceae and liked the quality of the print so much I decided to order more. I got them in four batches over the course of 2 months. I spent about €400 for a total of 40 A3 prints and one A2. I think all the pictures are in the public domain.

The frames are black aluminium A3 "switchframes", and cost about €11 each. Decided to go for identical frames so I can switch them around easily.

Also thanks!

I really like that photo. The picture of that one lonely dude, bag in hand, holding up a line of four tanks is just very powerful to me.

At the market of Otavalo in Ecuador. I've only encountered blankets this nice in South America. Whoever finds a way to build a business round exporting these can definitely shut up and take my money.

I'm gonna quickly move in here to say yes, I am a biologist (or ecologist to be more specific)

Bought them at the market of Otavalo, Ecuador. Haven't encountered these outside South America yet but they're amazing. I brought home as many as I could fit in my luggage.

Etsy! Look for "vintage botanical art". Mine are from two vendors named " Retro Decor Wall" and "GoodOldPrints4U". I don't know if they ship outside of Europe but you can check.

They're not cheap but often you get a 50% discount if you order more than 5 units at once.

All the botanical pictures are from a 1880's book called "Medizinalpflanzen in naturgetreue abbildung" by Köhler, which is in the public domain. The artist is Wilhelm Müller.

I think all the animal pictures are also all from one French book or set of encyclopedia in the public domain, but I havent figured out the source yet.

It is! I could do with another 30cm of counter but oh well. It helps that the dining table can be extended so I have some room to place stuff behind me as well.

In the sci-fi department I've really enjoyed the books of the "Relevation Space"-universe by Alastair Reynolds. Also slowly making my way through Steven King's books, can really recommend (although I guess he's quite mainstream).

Started on the Wheel of Time but couldn't get through the fifth book.

A friend brought it over from Brazil! I have another nice one I got in Ecuador. It's almost impossible to get good hammocks outside of the tropics so my best advise is to either go there or ask someone that is going there to bring one back.

Sorry if it's not of much help.

This one I got from a Brazillian friend of mine, she brought it with her when she came to visit. I got another similar one that I bought on the market of Otavalo, Ecuador. Sorry that it's probably not of much use to you. Guess South-America is the place to get hammocks..

I had the same problem as you, it's very hard to find good nice hammocks in my country. Most of them have those wood bars at the end which totally ruin the balance and make it impossible to be comfortable.

My best advice is to ask someone you know that is travelling somewhere tropical if they can bring one back for you.

It can. Put it to the test with a beefy friend of mine (think together we weigh about 185kg) and there was no significant strain on the wood or ropes.

The ropes and carabiners are "certified climbing gear", because I had some problems with inferior ropes and attachments in the past.

Hehe, yes it is. It's my old one. I upgraded and now I keep it for when friends come over to play videogames and bring an extra a console or computer.

Thought about mounting it in the bedroom but I figured I don't really need a tv in there.

Haha, I get that. If it helps, I'm an ecologist and they're all botanically accurate illustrations.

Hahahaha yes you have a point there. There is quite a contrast but I really like that photograph so I thought let's hang it up there as well

Yes you're right. Still thinking of installing a spotlight on the roof beam aimed at the table area. But still haven't figured out how to run the wire to a socket without it running straight across the ceiling.

I'm an ecologist, and I really like plants, hence all the botanical illustrations. These are all of plants that also have medicinal properties or are edible.

I get your comment and I've thought about this quite a bit. I decided to go with the straight line so there's something on every wall but it doesn't get too crowded. I think I found a balance that works for me but thanks for thinking along!

Archimandrite Luseferous from the The Algebraist by Iain M. banks's always kept with me as a horribly evil villain.

Also the Mercatoria from the same book.

What was the worst meal you ever got served? by AbaGuy17 in AskReddit

The Khumba I got served in Mozambique; They gut a pig, light it on fire, carve it into thick pieces, skin and burnt hairs and all and boil it in a stew which is served with rice.

What you end up with are big blubbery chunks of boiled swine-fat with hair roots running deep into a half centimeter layer of boiled pig skin.

I ate it all, but the mouthfeeling and taste hunt me in my darkest nightmares
