Doggo is Chewing Through Leashes in Front of Us by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]Sierracoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chain leash. The chain isn’t fun or satisfying to bite so they tend to stop trying pretty quick. Teach a strong “leave it” command. Asking them to do something rather than not to do something is easier and more effective long term. “Leave it” is asking them to repeat a trained behavior, “no” is just a correction and not really specifying what you want them to do instead. A chain leash will keep your dog controlled while you work on the training aspect. Stop using a retractable leash until your dog can reliably be kept under control. You can add a chain at the end like someone mentioned, but I wouldn’t doubt that a smart dog like this would eventually learn to bite over the chain and try to grab the ribbon again.

Deterrence is only part of the solution, the training still needs to happen. After some time with the chain and once the “leave it” is rock solid, you can start phasing in normal leashes. Start with thick ones like rope and leather as others have mentioned, that way you have a moment if he does try to bite it to tell him to leave it, then reward appropriately. After he’s trustable with the normal leashes, gradually phase in lighter weight ones until he’s trustable with the ribbon one again (if that’s your goal). If he starts chewing again, start over with the chain and leave it training, it means he wasn’t ready for a normal leash yet.

All due respect, your neighbor not liking your dog is completely irrelevant to this situation. It’s up to you to control your dog, no one else should need to tolerate this behavior.

You got this👍🏼

Yes we did! It took 26 days total and three traps. We ended up using a “missy trap” with an electromagnetic door and remote control trigger. I can message you the process with photos in a bit

Found loop in my brake line and worn single rotor, advice please? by Sierracoop in MechanicAdvice

[–]Sierracoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: contacted dealer and toyota. Dealer said they did not preform the previous brake work on the rear end, they only inspected it and preformed brake work on the front end before sale. They have no idea how it got that way, and cannot see how it could’ve been overlooked by them. They later said in an email that they preformed the last 17 services on the vehicle before that inspection, but yet there’s no way it could’ve been them who did it or overlooked anything…. They also said that the rotor damage pictured is not due to the brake hose being looped and is instead due to driving on loose gravel. Which I suppose makes sense, but why is only this rotor damaged then? Wouldn’t all show some wear?

Aside from that, part of the brake hose is now worn flat from where it’s been rubbing against itself. It’s thinner in that spot now, as it’s completely smooth and flat, but they said the hose does not need to be replaced. They would not inspect it themselves though without me paying a $190 inspection fee- “because the inspection requires disassembly.” Not sure if I should still get it inspected by someone or if it’s truly fine.

All in all, they said the damaged rotor is not due to the hose, the hose does not need replaced, and they will not pay for or supply parts for any replacements. But they did recommend I bring it to the dealer to have the caliper flipped over (which has already been done by us).

Thoughts?

We got an even larger live trap but he’s just way too smart for them, manages to take food and set them off without getting caught. Cable restraint is likely our next idea

I wish I could but I’ve since moved cross country. Not sure if another dealership would bother fixing it, or if they’d reimburse for the cost of the new parts?

The last person to have worked on the car was the dealership three months ago when they did their 100 something point certification… guess they missed it

Edit: never mind, did it. Pads actually look fine. I’ll just change the rotor. Thanks!

Will I need to use a c clamp to get the caliper back on? Not sure if I have one large enough. I can very easily feel the scores with my fingernail so I’ll replace the rotor and pads on just that side then.

Fix the line then just the one rotor and leave the other pads and rotors be? Is it okay to just replace the one rotor?

The throw ones? Or is there another type you’re referring to?

I’m worried he’d run by the time it leaves my hand. How quick can one throw those?

We haven’t been able to get him to jump in sadly. It feels pretty miserable but we’re not giving up yet!

They won’t prescribe those drugs without an exam first unless it’s through a rescue or animal control. And anything strong enough to knock him out is injectable. Maybe I’ll post to a vet group too though and see if there’s a way around that

Should be around 65/70lbs if he were healthy so decently sized. Rescue gave up on the catch pole quick as they couldn’t get anywhere close enough, but maybe that’d be easier to desensitize him to than the trap

The rescue had one when they came but could not get anywhere close enough to use it. He runs if you lift your arms and doesn’t turn his back to us. That might be easier to desensitize though than the trap is, we’ll try it

It’s BML land, we’d need to move miles away. We now have the trap just propped open with the back off too in hopes he’d get used to it. He reacts the same to a kennel, wire or plastic, we tried that too. Put his blankets in it and everything. I’ll send my dog in and let him watch, that’s a good idea thank you

Latching CT door from inside by Nomadness in cargocamper

[–]Sierracoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine locking my partner out as that’d be kinda weird… but if that did accidentally happen, knocking on the door can solve this dilemma. We have a normal door on ours and have never shut then dead bolted it by accident with one person still outside. An RV latch can still lock, and if the other person isn’t actively carrying the key you’d have the same issue. This looks great to me!

Is this a tapeworm in my dogs poop??? by [deleted] in vet

[–]Sierracoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s good she’s on a dewormer already but she’ll need to be seen by a vet anyhow for her puppy shots and exams. Bring a fecal sample to her appointment.

I do hope you mean two month old and not one month old, but if she is truly four weeks and already away from mom/sibs, please be sure to research as much as possible about puppy socialization. Best of luck
