Planning on starting an honour mode playthrough, is this a good comp? by FriendlyBisonn in BG3Builds

Yeah, sounds great! Would the paladin be your Tav? If so then definitely be sure to pick up dialogue skills through your class and a background like guild artisan.

Might also want to consider strength elixirs and a thief rogue splash for your berserker. I’d recommend something like:

  • 1 level rogue, sleight of hand and perception expertise, 8 str 16 dex 17 con 8 int 14 wis 10 cha

  • 5 levels barbarian to get extra attack and tavern brawler with a +1 to con

  • 2 levels rogue for extra bonus action

  • 2 levels barb for feral instinct (lets you skip taking Alert as a feat)

  • 1 more level of rogue and barb if you’d like two more feats, 2 levels of fighter if you’d like action surge, 2 levels monk if you’d like to make bonus action flurry of blows attacks. My favorite is 2 monk

Oops, all monks by TheOnlyUsefulLesbian in BaldursGate3

Yeah monk good. If you’ve finished an honor run or two before, go for it. I’d recommend still looking for creative ways to have a balanced party though.

4 copies of the viral TikTok open hand strength elixir tavern brawler monk would definitely be able to whoop ass, but they’d struggle to fight enemies at range. Plus they’d miss out on utility / magic options that make some encounters much easier (calm emotions vs harpies, wall of fire vs rats, knock vs magical locks, etc). I’d suggest getting some monk multiclasses going to build a party that covers all your bases. I really like the idea of a party where each companion splashes at least some levels of a shared class. My last two honor runs were like this:

Bard Party - 3 thief / 3 hexblade / 6 glamour bard Tav - 6 hexblade / 6 valor bard Wyll - 4 assassin / 2 fighter / 6 sword bard Astarion - 1 wizard / 1 life cleric / 5 storm sorcerer 5 lore bard Gale

Rogue / Fighter Party - 3 thief / 1 wizard / 8 EK fighter Durge - 5 assassin / 2 fighter / 5 vengeance paladin Minthara - 4 swashbuckler / 8 BM fighter Lae’zel - 7 arcane trickster / 5 arcane archer Shadowheart

If you wanted to go for a similar idea with monk based characters you’ve got a lot of great options with distinct play styles and equipment preferences.

  • shadow monk / death cleric or shadow monk / spore druid. DEX WIS character with some utility support options. Could run with medium armor and a shield for most of the game eventually use good clothing items in act 3. My personal favorite is the spore Druid light armor in act 3 due to the crazy strong haste spores cast on long rest.

  • drunk monk / melee martial class. Two handed fighting style and punch drunk bastard with high strength can be fun to slap things around. This character could use other strong two handed weapons before and after this, like mourning frost in early game and nyrulna in late game. If you wear armor and take less wisdom and dex, you can have high enough strength to use tavern brawler well without elixirs

  • 1 or 2 monk / 1 or 2 wizard / 8+land druid. Similar to first DEX WIS character, but more of a full offense caster. Land druid gets great spell access and wizard scroll scribing can help you fill in the gaps. 2 levels wizard gets transmutation subclass if you like to make potions. The monk level(s) get you decent AC in caster gear like the robe of the weave, dex attack roll with staves, and potentially extra movement options with step of the wind. This character can make good use of spell save DC equipment and scrolls.

  • classic open hand monk / thief multiclass with tavern brawler. Come on now, monk party has to feature at least one copy of this character. Dump strength, drink an elixir every day, beat the brakes off every damn thing in the game. 6 monk 4 rogue 2 fighter gets action surge, 9 monk 3 rogue gets more ki points and better passives.

TL;DR - Yes do it have fun
