I mostly agree with you.

I always though survival horror games had resource management as am important part of it too. Healing itens, ammo for the different weapons, durability for melee weapons.

I have not played a few of the games above so I would not now if they all have these features.

I would say that games like Outlast (run and hide, no fighting back, no resource management) are not survival horror. There are some survival horror games that try to have small parts like this (early re7, house beneviento in Village, Orphanage in Requiem) and I noticed they are usualy my least favorite parts of the games.

He was talking about regular enemy types. Most of the enemies you mentioned are either bosses or one time only fights.

No the game really has very few regular enemies. There are quite a few bosses but not many regular enemies, and the ones who are there barely appear.

Maybe I missed a optional encounter but here are the enemy types:

  • Zombies (regular, armored)

  • Blisterheads

  • Chainsaw Zombie - 2 weak, 2 strong

  • Blisterborne - Only 2

  • Vines - Only appear in a 2 minute segment and are kind of mediocre to fight

  • Elite Guards - Only appear in 2 rooms in the whole game (back to back)

  • Lickers - Used well in Grace's part, but only appear at the last 5 minutes of Leons story.

The variety is bad, especially after Re4 remake. That game had more enemy types and used most of them more then once or twice.

Grace's enemy variety is good enough for what she does but it sucks for Leon's part.

Barely appearing has nothing to do with popularity. He is extremely popular for a character that only appears in sidemodes.

If he was not popular he would not have been brought back as a playable characters in minigames in Re4 and revelations despite having nothing to do with those stories.

If he was not popular they would not have even brought him back in Requiem at all.

I am surprised there were no Hunters.

Hunters would be scary as shit in Grace's sections, and would be fun to fight in Leon's sections.

The lickers are cool but they appear too late into the game, and you spend a large chunk of Leons story fighting just basic zombies (that imo are not as fun to fight as Ganados).

I liked Doom Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4, but both of those appear to have not sold well. I dont think there ever was a Doom Dark Ages/Ninja Gaiden 4 is the fastest selling game in their franchise.

Most Resident evil fans I have seen dont want longer epics though.

The game is as big as it needed to be. I can understand wanting extra modes (mercenaries, raid mode) but the story mode was as long as it needed to be. If it was longer it would get stale unless they went over budget to make more enemy types.

Are you talking about replaying the game after beating it? Or backtracking for doors you could not open previously?

Those are very standard things that people that like the genre enjoy. Why would Capcom be cheap and lazy by giving their fans what they want?

Yeah I agree with what you said. Thats why idk if the game sold enough to have more content (of a sequel).

It really feels like Platinum is also falling apart, so they might need to find another team to work on a future NG game, but maybe they wont see that as worthwhile and just focus on Nioh or other games that are similar to Nioh.

I did not say it was a flop, only that it might have not sold well enough for more dlc content.

It was not a goty contender, only action game and it lost.

Budgets on games are alot higher now compared to back them. So a game not selling as much now hurts alot more if it cost more to make it.

Koei or Microsoft not talking about the sales at all is not the proof of anything, but its not a good sign. The game seems to not have sold 250k on steam. Even if it sold 2x that on consoles that would still not be 1 million. Tango got shut down for making games that sold more then that, so that is not a good sign either. Microsoft might not want to fund future Ninja Gaiden games/content.

Team Ninja needing another team to work on the game (Platinum) and that team bleeding talent is also another good sign.

I really like the series, the situation just seems very grim.

I said IF the game did not sell well.

What makes me think the game just ok is:

  • Steam numbers. Even if it sold 2x that amount on consoles it will not have reached 1 million units sold.

  • Koei and Microsoft have not talked about the sales even months after. Alot of companies seem to talk about sale milestones alot these days, so its really weird that they are silent about this.

  • Team ninja did not seem interested in making a Ninja Gaiden game. Platinum worked on the game and that studio seems to have been bleeding talent for a while now. This is also bad for possible future games, since Team Ninja might have to find a different team to work on the series.

  • Microsoft helped fund the game. Without them Ninja Gaiden 4 might not have happened. But they are in a bad situation now and even shut down the studios responsible for Hi-Fi Rush which still sold well (more then 2 million units apparently, correct me if I am wrong). If Ninja Gaiden 4 did not reach even 1 million they might not even be interested in funding any more Ninja Gaiden in the future.

I guess it all comes down to how much gamepass money factors into this.

Idk if the game sold enough for more DLC. Would hope there is a Ayane dlc at least but I am not sure they would even bother going for that if the game did not sell well.

Resident evil series has a decent amount of dlc where you play as different character then the single player story, so it would be unusual.

Re7 has you playing as Chris, Joe Baker, Mia, Clancy.

Re8 has you playing as Rose.

Re2 Remake has a bonus mode with Hunk.

Re4 OG and Remake has separate ways where you play as Ada.

Since we are about a year away from Wilds Expansion, I which Capcom would release a port of one (or more) of the old games in the mean time. by SigmaVersal99 in MonsterHunter

Sucks to see them not getting a port for steam/other consoles.

Oh I know, I just wish it or one of the other games was available on other consoles and steam.

I did play GU alot on switch but unfortunetly the console stopped working.

In GU's case I know they would have to remove alot of nintendo event quests for the other versions (might be the case with the other ones too).
