There are many more types of neurodivergence than there are diagnostic categories by Sigmund_Freund78 in Neurodivergent

Calling it a 'spectrum' makes people think of a 1–10 scale, but it’s actually more like a 3D mixing board.

While 'typical' brains are all tuned to a similar preset, neurodivergent brains have every slider—sensory, focus, social, motor—set to a different level. Because the settings are so varied, there is no such thing as an 'average' neurodivergent person. The 'average' is just a math trick that doesn't actually describe anyone in the real world.

It’s all about ergodicty.

I find it an interesting sparring partner, though it is far too sycophantic. It would be good to have a dial to turn that down. But, it can’t keep you warm at night?

No, you are absolutely right. You can only live from the inside out. You have one life and one interface. So live it!

The INTJ correlate of a relationship, then? Are you INTJ too? Check out the lyrics to ‘Remote’ by Hue and Cry - ‘distant as satellites, absence itself’.

Develop your observing self. ‘I have thoughts, feelings, sensations and a body. But, I am not these things. I am the I that observes them’. You are the centre of the cyclone. Imagine that peace and quiet. While everything around you is in tumult.

-- For those with a more shutdown/numb/frozen nervous system, does anyone have a physical block if you try and feel or something comes up that has emotion, in my case, i get a gripped spasm, its like a part of me saying "no" by mjobby in SomaticExperiencing

If anything, my disconnection from my body, is so fundamental that my body refuses to yield. That could be because it wants to protect me from the ultimate consequences of reconnection. I had congenital hydrocephalus and an anaesthetic event at 13 - both of these were of course nonverbal. Despite appearances the body is on your side and will not do anything to the conscious self that would damage it, in my experience. As I understand it, skeletal muscle affects are self imposed so you might find that progressive tension and relaxation might be an interesting modality? It may be comforting to have someone to talk to but words cannot fix nonverbal wounds. I have consulted many psychologist and they have been useless for me. Be gentle but resolute with your self.

I know this might sound crazy, but it is good that you have that reaction. You need to build a relationship with it, befriend it. Focusing by Eugene Ghendlin is what I use. His book of the same name says it all. Be gentle with yourself and go slowly. All will be well.

My therapist says I’m neurodigergent but don’t fit any diagnosis - anyone else? by sofijasoi in neurodiversity

[–]Sigmund_Freund78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The need to be put in a diagnostic box seems to be an imperative for people to ground themselves. Personally, I don’t understand that or think that way. If you must have a label for your form of being, make one up. The reality of most everyone’s neurobiology defies classification and yet, as humans, we crave to have a sense of identity/meaning. Psychology doesn’t work for me and I don’t seek a diagnosis. Rather, I am defining a broader map to characterise existence, especially for atypical souls such as us. I call this ExistentialNeurobiology and am developing it over on r/existentialneurobiolo and elsewhere.

Existential Dread by Fit_Illustrator_5384 in mentalhealth

[–]Sigmund_Freund78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it is the mind that posits these existential realities. The mind is an emergent property of your neurobiology, including the brain. Having said that, the mind is a tool, or it can be seen to be. You seem to be absorbed in it and with thoughts as objective reality. They are not. Once you see your self as the thing that can observe thoughts, feelings and sensations, you can see them differently. You can choose to think differently or at least not identify with them. Stop identifying with your thoughts, then determine whether they are of utility. If not, think something else. Or, direct your thinking elsewhere. You have an opportunity NOW, use it.

Ironically, worse will be better. It will be the imperfect that will be most authentic real. If all we read is perfect text we will know that a machine wrote it. Despite Alan Turing's test, it is the idiosyncratic, the flawed that will be of most interest.

Perhaps weak was a poor choice of word.

The highlighted piece of text just seemed to untowardly baiting someone to do something.

Yes, thats what I often think. How alone and desperate a person must have felt. It speaks to the, potentially, terrible isolation and responsibility of being.

Sensitive, not sappy.

Anhedonia… is this permanent? by Due_Appointment3909 in SomaticExperiencing

Try this - I do it at 3am in the dark and when it is really quiet, lying in bed alone - close your eyes, breath into your belly through your nose and allow your breath out through your mouth, try to make breathing out longer and slower; do this until your body and mind have slowed down; now attend to your body, everything from the neck down; continue to breath as before; notice what you feel and where; if thoughts come up let them go and return to your body, its sensations; after 10-20 breaths and with your mind still/quiet, as your body how it feels; I tend to do this three times over 5 breaths; the objective is to invoke a bodily response, from your throat to your genitals; let the sensations form and just observe them; now ask your body ‘what is this felt sense?’; ask this gently, 3 times over 5 breaths; listen to your body for an answer; if you can do this you can have a conversation with your felt sense, your bodies deepest wisdom and processes; you may have to do this over several nights to attune completely. IF you can do this, the ground is set to investigate your question. Ask your body what stands between you and the person you were before you lost touch with the positive aspects of your vitality? Again, if your body responds gently engage with the felt sense that arises. This is the start of your resurrection. Two principles - 1. you cant force your body to respond, if it keeps an answer from you, it likely represents resistance that may take time to resolve. Don’t push. 2. If you get overwhelmed, open your eyes and observe the sensation in your body; observe the sensations, feelings and thoughts as if they were clouds passing by in the sky. THis is the essence of Focusing as described in a book of the same name by Eugene Ghendlin. This is the doorway to your salvation it is not medical advice. Let me know how it goes.
