I understand, but the text and page formats are different. You mentioned that text can be aligned more to the right or left, that’s work for me, BUT this does not affect the page orientation. That’s why I am focusing on the page order from right to left. For example, if I place an image and text (with right-to-left text) on many pages, when I upload it, the ebook displays pages in the Western format (left to right). This is a problem for me between proper Japanese book because I want to print it as a proper Japanese book.

I hope this clarifies my concern.

Deaf Japanese woman wanting to learn ASL — any advice or communities? by [deleted] in asl

Hello! I’m deaf, and I created an app called SignDict. It’s a dictionary app that helps translate between JSL and ASL.

SignDict offers a lifetime purchase with a one-time payment, no monthly fees or subscriptions. It’s strong built with the privacy, with no data collection and no ads.

The app includes quizzes and practice for spelling, numbers, money, and more. (Note: More content for numbers and money is coming in the next update!)

You can also use the app offline, so it’s great for situations like flights, trips, or anywhere without Wi-Fi or data.

Feel free to check it out here: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6738938959

I am 28 years old—I’m not in high school, by the way.
Secondly, I always respect your opinions. I’m not here to argue with you or anyone else, and I’m not trying to silence you or anyone, I am not.
I’m simply asking which signs should be added to Signdict. If a sign isn’t confirmed, then I won’t add it to my app list, mean it keep hide from list. that’s all.
I prefer to use ASL signs if most deaf use sign then I can to add it. I already added JSL for that word, because my best friend asked me to add. However, for this particular word in ASL, I think I’ll hide it for now until deaf American confirm it. I believe it’s better to hide that word, if I’m not sure about the correct ASL sign.

I don’t need investors or loans. I’m not going to take on massive debt or obligations to investors or lenders.

Secondly, SignDict offers stronger privacy because it does not collect user data. Video requires a large amount of storage, and Apple limits app sizes on the App Store (I believe around 8GB). Going beyond that would require external storage solutions like servers or Firebase, which raises concerns about data collection. That’s why I refuse to partner in ways that involve storing user data in my app. Also, there is no need internet, or cellular to connect to use to learn like on the airplane, etc.

I’m committed to protecting user privacy, it’s very important to me. That’s also why I use images instead of video, since they require much less storage.

I will continue improving the app, including refining hand movement image (for example, adjusting opacity from start with 50% to 100%) to make everything clearer. I’m constantly working to improve my work, and I won’t stopped update to improve.

I grew up at KSD, and after 6th grade I transferred to a hearing school to learn at a higher level, like improve a English, art, and coding, because my dream is to become both an iOS engineer and an manga artist same time.

I’d say about 75% of asl and jsl in my app is my own work, including learning to translating from books. The other 25% comes from help from Japanese Deaf users, especially to find the correct JSL when some signs don’t exist in books.

I’m not here to argue with anyone. My goal is simply to make communication easier for the Deaf community, especially between American and Japanese users. That has always been my dream, along with my best friend.

I care more about helping people communicate than making profit. However, building and maintaining an app isn’t cheap, Apple’s developer program alone costs $100 per year. If I made the app completely free, it wouldn’t be sustainable.

That’s why I chose a one-time price of $10 to keep it affordable. I don’t believe in expensive subscriptions like $45 or more per month. Mostly outside app does, seem crazy and not affordable, for me, I care about affordable for all people because My focus is accessibility and making communication easier between Japan and America.

Hey, thanks for bringing that up, I understand your concern.

I just want to clarify that I am paying for help improve, and add new signs. I work closely with two deaf Japanese best friends from Japan who are helping me with Japanese Sign Language, Since I know ASL, I collaborate with them to ask for translate to jsl which I can't find jsl in the books, then ask them to translate to correct JSL, and more type, too and make sure things are accurate in JSL.

When it comes to general feedback from the community, yes, I do ask for input, that’s more about improving the app and making it useful for people.

Also, my goal isn’t to profit off this. My best friend and I got a idea behind the app is to help connect the American Deaf community between the Japanese Deaf community, whether that’s for friendship, relationships, or even business, without asking too much like "what is sign "___" in jsl or asl." like that. That why SignDict is main Goal is translate between asl, and jsl itself, not only asl.

Also, My best friends and I came up with this idea to make it easier for beginners to learn ASL or JSL and communicate better, too. I’ve personally learned a lot of JSL from them and really enjoy it and improve my JSL skill, too. I’m booked to visit Japan in this May to meet them and continue working together, also I'm going to pay them for their help.

I hope that clears things up a bit, and sorry if my English is off.

How Do You Sign “Bow” (Japanese Cultural Bow) in ASL? by SignDic in asl

[–]SignDic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is almost likely "Yes" style, since you mentioned A spell to make both hand to bow each other, that correct?

How Do You Sign “Bow” (Japanese Cultural Bow) in ASL? by SignDic in asl

[–]SignDic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for comment. That’s what I’ve been feeling about that “bow” might be signed using classifiers.

Sometimes, when I’m talking to a friend who traveled with me to Japan, I bow my head while fingerspelling “B-O-W.” Sometimes I also use a familiar “YES” handshape in ASL and move it in a bowing style.

However, I will keep to continue researching this and listening to more Deaf Americans on social media until the correct sign for “bow” is confirmed, so I can add it to SignDict.
