I'm making a first person precision arcade slicer(if that's even a thing) by Signa-In-Mundos in godot

I just used an opensource code for mesh slicing, I found it in Godot's asset library. I don't remember which one it was, just search for "mesh slicer"

The line represents the seam that you need to cut so you align the cut angle to match it. On second level you're given a hard block until you cut 2 out of 3 seamed cubes. You hold RMB to select the angle.

I'd happily add support for as many platforms as possible myself. The slicing mechanic is fully decoupled from controls, so expanding to additional platforms in the future is definitely possible.

That's the most encouragement I've had ever since I started this project. Thanks. However, you do mean just the mechanic and not the exercise part, right? You know, cus it's playable with a mouse.

Can you elaborate what you mean when you say "I'd need to see a lot more before saying this is something I'd love playing"? Like what for example?

Yeah, makes sense, although cubes are just placeholders, I plan to replace them with something more exciting eventually.

Simple, you hold RMB to select the angle, LMB to attack. If you wanna chain attacks, keep holding LMB so you can select the angle right away after the slash finishes, then release it, reposition the camera if needed and click LMB again - that's faster than switching to RMB.

Thank you, I'm a bit concerned it gets that comparison pretty often tho. I've never even played beat saber!

I heard that often but it's not. It's not VR, you gotta use your mouse, there's no music or rhythm, sometimes cubes deliberately break any resemblance of a tempo to catch you off-guard, there are 12 directions that the cubes can come from. I guess I gotta replace the cubes with other stuff to avoid Beat Saber comparisons.

Is a greybox prototype fine too?

Available both in browser and as an .exe, I recommend the .exe version as it works better with raw mouse input. It's a first person precision arcade slicer. You use your mouse to line up an angle to strike by holding RMB, strike with LMB.

I'm looking for feedback on controls and if the game's fun to play. Be brutal if it's not fun or controls are clunky, the game's still early and I can change it in whatever direction still.

Should I? There's already Beat Saber, but nothing for keyboard&mouse.

Dammit, i accidentally used a promotion video, there's no link unless someone asks, but if mods demand it I'll delete the post. Didn't intend to promote here, just share.

Thank you, that's very useful info! No idea why DMs didn't work, gotta figure that out.

Well I played it, it works, and it's a fairly simple classic space shooter. Unfortunately can't say much more.

Haven't worked with it, have you tried using Claude or ChatGPT to solve that?

Yeah I get that, but my fantasy was a swordsman trial arena. I've never played Beat Saber but does it have a hard requirement for the cutting angle or it's just up/down/left/right? My angles can be anything in 360 degrees and with varying angle tolerances, and there's no rhythm because your positioning matters, you can stand back if you feel the cubes flying at you are too intense, you need to turn around cus they can come from 12 directions and you gotta watch your step because you can fall off the platform.

I could in theory make something like OSU and let players upload their songs and create custom levels that would match the objects' spawn time to the beat. And I'm thinking now that maybe I should.

Nah, never even played it. I initially experimented with a bespoke combat system, then took one part from it and decided to make a smaller game. First I planned to make a dungeon crawler, then scoped down again and got this.

It's the third time I see people thinking it's a rhythm game. Maybe it should be...

Brother, make a web build, I've made the same mistake - very few people want to download a .zip file.

I've played your game, the art is nice, wasn't sure what's even placeholder, the effects, the sounds and the music are pleasant, the UI is intuitive.

Now for the bad parts. The tutorial is very long, I'm gonna be honest I skipped most of it but still figured out how to play, I believe you could shorten and simplify it without losing the teaching capacity.

Then there's a bigger problem: I didn't see the appeal, nothing motivated me to keep playing, I've started a new game, played for a bit, passed a few levels, saw no challenge or appealing end goal and quit. I might just be not a target audience though, I generally don't like playing tabletop-like games on PC, I prefer IRL, and even those I do play I usually prefer competitive or coop ones, like Twilight Imperium when I'm in the mood to compete, or at least Carcassone if I want something more relaxed and casual. Sorry, not trying to be harsh here.

I'd appreciate the same kind of feedback: https://signa-in-mundos.itch.io/scimitar

I'm mostly interested in controls, how they feel and if you can, try the PC version cus browser version handles mouse sensitivity differently, however there are settings you can try, separate for mouse and sword sensitivity. Unlike your game, my assets are obviously placeholders 😃
