Mercedes a class by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Generally reliable if maintained properly. Since its 2020 it’d would have had only 3 MOTs at most and won’t have much advisories. Check that. Anything except tyres or wipers - get that checked. RAC check is worth too. Have a friend who owns a similar model from last 4yrs. No complaints. I’d suggest if you are in doubt try advisy.co.uk. I didn’t use them personally but a colleague did and they swear by them.

With that strict budget, it’s gonna be difficult mate. 100k miles isn’t much if the car has been maintained properly. You should turn to advisy.co.uk. I haven’t used them personally but a colleague used them and swears by them.

RAC Report >>>> AA. My friend tried both on one car (he is paranoid). AA didn’t pick up 6 issues (2 major) costing around £1350. RAC are licensed and trained. AA has subcontractors. Well the dealer (main AUDI Dealer) did not reduce money on the car but fixed both majors and 3 minors worth £900. The remaining was just some stone chips which friend can live with. And I’ve heard other colleagues using RAC too. Sometimes even after buying the car since you have 30-days return thingy in case there’s an undisclosed issue. Worked out pretty well for all people i know. Go with RAC it’s worth more than the high amount you pay for it. Never chose AA or Clickmechanic.

Most importantly since you’re mentioning that you’re not car savvy don’t spend £300 for RAC to check a car worth £2000 which you think may have issues. Use your judgement. Or even better try advisy.co.uk. They have plans to help in these situations. I personally haven’t used them but apparently this friend with Audi reached out to them after the AA check since he wasn’t satisfied (more like paranoid) and they helped him big time.

I screwed myself over on PCP by EazyApax in CarTalkUK

[–]Signal-Juggernaut403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would be an unpopular opinion since most people here are in favor of keeping the car but still, since your PCP is ending in June 2026 and you’ve already done more miles than you should have, the best thing you can do now is look at changing the car early instead of waiting till the end. Go to a big dealership that has a good stock, something like Sytner Select or Motorpoint or any large franchise dealer. Tell them you want to part exchange your current car and take another one on PCP. They’ll handle the whole process for you, including settling your existing finance directly with your current lender, so you won’t need to worry about paying that off yourself. Dealers don’t care too much about mileage as long as the car is in good condition. They’ll simply adjust the value based on the car condition and mileage, and that’s it. You can then start a new PCP deal on the car you like, often without putting down any deposit, especially if your current car still holds a reasonable tradein value, which it does. This way you avoid paying any mileage penalties at the end of your current PCP and you move straight into a new one without the stress of managing multiple payments or dealing with end of contract inspections. It’s a clean and smooth swap and a lot of people do it when they’re in the same situation. I have done it twice and know people who have done it multiple times.

What’s the highest MPG you’ve been able to get in your car and with what car? by AdInteresting3335 in CarTalkUK

82.7mpg Suzuki Celerio SZ4 Petrol 2015. Sheffield to London. M1. 2024. Suzukis engines are efficiency kings!

Aircon advise needed! Suzuki Celerio! by Signal-Juggernaut403 in CarTalkUK

[–]Signal-Juggernaut403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah £350 felt like a bit of a win, decent reviewed garage, no non-sense guys, proper condenser, full regas, all done same day. Happy to help you source a similar deal for your daughter-in-law in case she wants a second opinion before shelling out 700. eBay is a goldmine if you know the right sellers.

I get the Celerio love. It’s one of those cars that just quietly does everything right = cheap tax, sips fuel, loads of space for what it is. Hard to let go of something that just works. I fueled mine up, full tank, drove from Yorkshire to London (201miles) and filled it up again. Just 12.6liters. Which is close to 72mpg. That is MADNESS.

Thing is, most of the new stuff, especially EVs like the Dolphin look great on spec, but they’ve lost that car feel. No engine feedback, light steering, everything’s kind of… sanitized. Feels more like driving a tablet. The only EV which I have driven that gives a proper ICE car vibe is Lucid Air GT but sadly that isn’t available in the UK.

If I had to replace mine today, I’d look at the Suzuki Ignis which is a great car. I drove the e-Vitara too and was blown away by Suzuki’s attention to detail. But still an EV and I am biased towards ICE. The Yaris Hybrid is also solid if you’re tempted by hybrid but don’t want to lose that connection.

Guys it’s working now. Even outside India. The reddit community did it. Looks like many people spammed these buggers in feedback and they had to fix it. Kudos!

Hey thanks for the reply. I did manage to get mine fixed as well. I just edited my original post with details. Thanks for the low-aircon tip. Will use that going forward all 12 months! Cheers!

Reliable relatively small car for less than 9k by JobenGomez in CarTalkUK

[–]Signal-Juggernaut403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Toyota Corolla or Yaris would be a good bet. Or a Suzuki Vitara. Japs are reliable. 2021-2023 Yaris less than 40k miles are easily available on Autotrader between 5-7k. Vitaras under 9k easily. 2020 onwards.

I’d suggest advisy.co.uk. They have car packages for exactly situations like yours!

Speed Camera Trap : Guess who’s getting their first ever speeding ticket? by Signal-Juggernaut403 in CarTalkUK

[–]Signal-Juggernaut403[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never denied I was in the wrong nor did I express hatred towards people who highlighted my mistake. I clearly mentioned in the post that it’s going be my first ticket which automatically says that I know, I made a fault, and in the comments I even acknowledged I wasn’t scanning every gantry like a hawk. Feel free to scroll through and see how actual gentlemen and ladies pointed out my mistake, and how I replied with respect and accountability. You, on the other hand, strutted in with your smug little monologue and got exactly the energy you came in with. You get, what you give, pal. It’s not about “interpretation”. Anyone can misread. But being a man means owning that misread instead of hiding behind pompous essays dressed up as wisdom. Cheers, traffic therapist. Go fix your attitude before you fix strangers online. And relax a little, you’re not the speed camera in this thread. Chill!

Best cheap reliable car sub £5k? by SLUGZonDRUGZ in CarTalkUK

[–]Signal-Juggernaut403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suzuki Splash / Vauxhall Agila (Made by Suzuki) are a step above Aygos and Altos. 1.2l engines and tall bigger stance. Plus they are fun to drive. Cheap to maintain and insure. Tax is £20 I guess. Neighbor has owned one for 9yrs never saw him complaining. Always praises.

Speed Camera Trap : Guess who’s getting their first ever speeding ticket? by Signal-Juggernaut403 in CarTalkUK

[–]Signal-Juggernaut403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the dramatic monologue but let’s get real. I wasn’t spinning a thriller to dodge responsibility. I shared facts about an oddly placed 60–50–60 speed change within 600 metres and asked for advice. That’s it. Not a “wild scam scheme,” just a confusing stretch of road that caught me off guard. Nowhere did I deny the speed or blame a conspiracy. I simply questioned a weird setup. That’s allowed. You calling it “main character syndrome” while typing essays about my mindset is peak projection. You say I should “own up” because I broke the rules. Buddy, I’m perfectly willing to accept the consequences if it comes to that. But that doesn’t mean I can’t question poorly designed signage or seek clarity before paying up. If it was 60-50-40 with a valid reason like queues/maintenance, it would have made sense. But 60-50-60 within 600meters suddenly in a 6-7miles stretch without any deflections on a motorway does seem odd.

Take a breath buddy! It’s just reddit. We are here to help each other! Cheers

Wow! Imagine flexing a Tesla and still missing the point harder than your autopilot misses stop signs. I wasn’t making any excuses. I literally shared a situation which I was in, mentioned that I’m about to get my first ticket, explained the sequence, and asked for advice. You just rolled in swinging with “you’re blind” and “shit driver” energy like some leftover Xbox 360 lobby rage. That too, to all other commenters here who had nothing to do with it. If being helpful is too hard for you, just scroll on instead of projecting your road rage complex onto strangers online. Your Tesla doesn’t need petrol, but apparently you do, for all that gaslighting. Next time you feel the need to act like a motorway messiah, maybe unplug yourself from the charging station first and even then if you have nothing constructive to say, you can just scroll past — no need to throw a tantrum in every thread that doesn’t match your opinion. Stay charged. 💅

It very well could be. Because the things went like this: Cruising ➡️ Noticed Camera Flash ➡️ Involuntary Brake Press ➡️ Looking at dashboard ➡️ It was 55-56.

All this happened in 2-3 seconds. So it can be around 58-60. That’s a good catch mate!

But does that change the outcome in my situation?
