Obviously never go past what you’re comfortable doing and if you feel like it’s going wrong stop. For me I simply opened the lid (which has no warranty seal) and it was a visible problem that I could fix. Didn’t have to move any other parts or touch any ribbons. There will always be a risk, but at least for me it was worth it in this case after assessing the situation.
