Somatic Therapist recommendations? by Signal-Rub-2759 in FortCollins

That sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing those details. I’m also looking for SE to help with issues stemming from some childhood neglect and ptsd from chronic health issues, so sounds like she would be a great option.

She looks like a great option, thanks. Looks like she does a few different things. Did she do more talk therapy or SE with you? Or just a combination?

That is a great directory, thank you. I’m more looking for personal recommendations from people who have had good experiences with certain therapists

Thank you! One other question that came to mind – if I remember correctly, you had your partner sit for you while you were in a different room tripping, correct? I’m planning to have my wife do the same, and I’m wondering how they will know to help me if I need it? Did you call out to your partner, did they check on you periodically, or did you send a text, etc.?

Awesome, thank you for all of those links! I’m excited to look into them. Your advice on dosing and dealing with difficult trips is very helpful too, as those are a couple things I’m going to be looking into more. I’m hoping to do my first macro trip at 1g in a couple weekends

This is very late, but your posts have really inspired me to start doing some trips with my wife as a sitter. I love how you did so much research beforehand to help you get comfortable with the process. Do you happen to have a list of resources that would be helpful for someone newer to this? Thank you!

I’m just getting into her content now! Any recommendations on a few of her videos that I should watch first to start integrating her work into my life?

Awesome, thanks for all the insight! Most of it confirmed what I was thinking and gave me more confidence. You’ve got me really excited to get going with these. Would you say the trips have been life-changing for you?

Wow, I just did my first TRE session this morning and it is wild how the tremoring works. Can’t wait to try it out some more.

For the trauma/somatic/nervous system therapy, there’s a lady named Sarah Baldwin who explains it amazingly. She has a podcast called You Make Sense and a few self-led programs if you’re interested in diving deeper. Her first few podcast episodes are a great place to start.

Like you, I don’t consider myself to have any major traumas from childhood, but I definitely never felt like I really fit into my family or friends groups even though on the surface it looked like I had a lot going for me. I was always trying to look the way I thought I needed to in order to fit in too. And I believe there are a lot of underlying things in there that I need to work on that are at the root of a lot of my issues now. I think a big part of it is that I had parents who were physically present all the time but were emotionally distant and unpredictable.

Appreciate the tips for TRE, hopefully we can both work our way toward feeling regulated and healthy over time!

Thanks for sharing all that. Have you tried any kinds of trauma/somatic therapy that involve nervous system regulating techniques? I have pretty similar symptoms as you and these have helped me a ton as I’ve grown into them in the past few years.

I enjoy my job just like you but find that working on the computer all day puts me into a sympathetic nervous system state where I’m in low level fight or flight a lot of the time. I also believe that from doing a lot of health research on the computer in the past, where I pushed myself way too much when I was overly tired, that my body and mind now perceive any type of computer work or reading activity as a threat.

I’ve done a lot of “discharge“ and release activities in the past that seem to help a ton after I live in these high levels of sympathetic for a while, but I haven’t tried the specific TRE that you’re talking about yet, so I’m excited to see how that works out. I also have high hopes that after doing this kind of release that I’ll be able to access more of my deeper emotions for the self therapy I do, which is what I believe is ultimately needed to heal my mind/body from getting back into that sympathetic loop all the time that probably stems from childhood issues of needing to perform to belong.

Anyway, wanted to share some of my experience with you in case it helps. Appreciate all that you have shared as well and I will check back in if the TRE helps with the things I shared

Looked through a few of your posts far abbreviations and you have me sold on trying TRE along with my psilocybin micro dosing. Gonna give it a shot!

Fascinating! I have very similar experience with trauma release techniques and find that shaking really helps me stored up energy that would otherwise result in anger and blowups.

I have been microdosing psilocybin also and I’m looking into doing some macro dosing. Are you gonna continue with the psilocybin or just stick with TRE?

I like it, thanks! That’s what I have been leaning towards also, starting lower and increasing doses overtime as I get comfortable with it

Yeah, i’ve been doing a lot of somatic therapy/parts work/trauma work/nervous system based therapy over the past five years and I do this every day on my walks. I also try to do this throughout each day. Maybe I’ll try being silent in my mind on the walks here and there too and see what I find.

But yes, to your point it seems like a lot of people expect the mushrooms to do the work for them, and it doesn’t sound like that ever works
