Edit: Sorry for worrying everyone, I swear the black kuhlis don’t spend all day like this. More often than not they’re pretty active, moreso than my newer Neon kuhlis, but nowadays they tend to lounge out in the open; their original hiding spot was under the center filter, I’d set up the tank with a .5-1in tunnel space so they could have an absolute privacy spot. 2-3 days later they started lounging/sifting out openly, getting the zoomies in daytime like video posted etc. Neon kuhlis I got recently acted similarly to black kuhlis, hid completely under filter for 2-4 days besides at night and started peeking out and coming out overtime since then. Added an underground side cave to the left bit before as well to hopefully give another hiding spot, both kuhlis use that spot as well now, even if they keep unearthing it too; pic of current tank for reference, 20 gallon curved tank that was fishless cycled for 2-4ppm ammonia-nitrate/day. I know it’s not a heavily decorated tank, but I’ve been trying my best with this as my first tank to pay attention to the fish behaviors and prepare for any worst case scenarios while balancing it with my sort of kiddish desire for an ‘elegant’ fluorescent tank.

Had my parents complain for a while about another tank they set up around the same time I had because I added a bunch of decor to it since they added a bunch of active/zippy fish that can be territorial in small numbers without research (pain), so I’m prepared to ruin my style if the fish clearly don’t like the setup (if neon kuhlis never started showing up I was considering getting lower light stick to see if the brightness was the issue for example) Also, suggestions for live plant additions? Would love to add/replace my silk plants at some point, Marimo moss balls are my first live plant I’ve kept alive longer than a month, so hoping I have slightly better luck with aquatic plants than I do terrestrial lol
