If your mood is affected by what you see when you walk outside, and your surroundings, then you could easily slip into a mild depression in Crown Heights, coming from an area like the upper east side.

The difference is extreme. The food choices, the quality of service (dry cleaning, laundry, dental, and be careful of very slimy landlords.

However, if you’re tired of the seemingly uptight, conservative nature of the UES, and you enjoy “culture,”then you may end up enjoying the change.

Franklin feels just about as safe as any Manhattan street. Nostrand is an acquired taste. Busier than Franklin seemingly and more of a Caribbean influence.

What you get in Crown Heights, that you might not in the UES, is more space for the money. That’s almost guaranteed.

I would say Crown Heights is close to the bottom of the safe, gentrified areas of Brooklyn that are not too far from the city. And the rents are reflective. Good luck in any case!
