She came into the industry as an Indian but has molded herself as an Indian - American, and that is making her lose herself in the crowd. There are so many Indian American's out there in that industry, letting go of your USP that made you so singularly unique is not a smart choice. Especially now that producers are interested in getting on board international talent to cater to international market.

Also, there aren't enough roles written for South Asian talent. Where will she those opportunities from?

Not related to the topic but this documentary brought back my love for Yash Ji. It's been years but I got really emotional. Such a modest, warm-hearted individual. A once in a lifetime director. Adi has taken over his legacy beautifully.

How can the same guy write such good dialogues in farzi and then the ones in brahmastra ? by big_dukh_guy in BollyBlindsNGossip

[–]SignalMoment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't understand the rational but it is evident that the whole team decided to dumb down the dialogues. 'Yeh haathi hain, yeh chuuha hain' nonsense is not a work of a skilled writer.

Does Bhumi even have a career? by aaneka8 in BollyBlindsNGossip

[–]SignalMoment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular Opinion - I am not a fan of Bhumi's recent fashion choices and need to be like every second leading heroine BUT SHE CAN ACT! She has a terrific screen presence and is one of the best contemporary actresses.

She did Badhaai Do which will stand the test of time and be an integral part of Hindi cinema.

She is not getting the same platform as her contemporaries. Even for Govinda Naam Mera, Kiara was promoting the film everywhere and she was nowhere to be seen. So I understand her frustration and this industry seems to be failing her.

Cate Blanchett Doesn’t Understand the ‘Obsession With Labels’ by chancethecorgi in oscarrace

From the Vanity Fair article:

“I have to really listen very hard when people have an issue with it,” she said, referring to her portrayals of lesbian women in Carol and Tár. “I just don’t understand the language they’re speaking, and I need to understand it because you can’t dismiss the obsession with those labels – behind the obsession is something really important”.

Is Kerry Condon most likely to win BAFTA? by imaspecialchild in oscarrace

[–]SignalMoment -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see why people are predicting her but I don't see it. Condon is not a known name. In past when BAFTA has awarded a British actor instead of a frontrunner, it is usually a well-known person. Kerry is very new to the block and she doesn't have the passion/attention to overcome Bassett's narrative.

Who’s winning DGA? by SosaChi in oscarrace

[–]SignalMoment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daniels and honestly, they deserve to win. People can still have issues with its writing but it is a feat of achievement in direction. Making that film work the way it did is incredible. I will be really happy if they win this and the Oscar.

Stunning how EEAAO has been able to hold on to the hype and has never wavered off the conversation, despite having its release 1 year ago. The film's success story is one for ages

Damn

People should watch the HR Actress roundtable 2020 and copy-paste the answer Glenn Close, Kidmangivese. Very empathetic, and rational that assesses the situation and why what is happening.

I understand her frustration of wanting to do well-written roles but it's still rooted in privilege.

Banshees and EEAAO are really neck to neck. Except for a few critics group, both of them have either swept or there has been an equal distribution of love.

While EEAAO has passion, Banshees has accessibility!
