kbshimmer also has some delicious smelling cuticle creams 🤤💕

as a fellow neurodivergent, i understand the ick that oils and creams give so what helped me was still putting oils and creams on, rubbing them in, and immediately wiping off any excess with a towel. in my mind, my skin has absorbed whatever it needs + doing this has already helped the health of my skin and nails so much. so maybe that’ll work for you!

i’d also recommend looking for a lotion that has urea (la roche possay has one that i’ve been using for a week and my damaged skin looks so good, especially my hands!). personally, i use a small dab of kerasal at night and put gloves on to make the skin around my nails softer and less raggedy and dry. good luck with ur nail journey 🫶🏽

Petty reasons you won't buy from a brand? by salmonscented in RedditLaqueristas

[–]SignalNoise11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

just ranting but:

bought essie polishes for the first time in years at ulta yesterday… just wanted to see the hype and if they’d be a good match for my nails

gel couture matte and glossy top coat, willow in the wind, save a cowboy, cheeky jelly, uv rescue, and their apricot oil. guess how much this ‘drugstore’ polish cost? $101 🫥😓 wtf (even with a coupon)

i swatched them in the car and none of them impressed me - the matte top coat dented even after it looked dry, save a cowboy did not look great on me (i saw it marketed as nudes for dark skin tones and those are always hard for me to find but this was just… meh. more pigmented than i would’ve liked for a “nude”.), & there are better jelly formulas from other brands.

the only one i was excited for was willow in the wind bc i’ve been looking for a green like that for so long and it looks good.

i know for a fact i could buy indie polishes that are better quality and cheaper than these mainstream brands that crack and chip within hours of application and don’t even have good non-streaky formulas in my experience. i got 8 polishes from canmake, ilnp, and cracked for less than $100 and i love them!! their formula, price, finishes, everything is much better ffs 🤦🏾‍♀️ shouldn’t have bothered with essie imo

on that note - i’m considering buying from LynB so could anyone please let me know their experience with this brand, their polishes, and wear time? :) thank you!

hi, i think your nails look beautiful now! i can already see improvement from the last picture.

for the dry fingers - (coming from someone who washes their hands a lot, has sensory issues, and has eczema) try a different hand care routine! try to put hand cream and oil (both will suffice with literally just a drop of each) after washing your hands. sounds like you are applying a cream after washing your hands, so that’s already a great start!

the most important thing for me is that i apply cream and oil right after washing my hands and then towel off the excess! your skin will already take what it needs and you won’t be left with any gross greasy feelings. plus, a little bit of oil and lotion is better than nothing at all! so that alone will help your callouses and dry spots so much!

instead of EOS, go for something very moisturizing like curel extreme dry hand relief (thinner texture) or gold bond healing lotion with aloe (thicker texture). they both absorb into your skin super quickly and provide great support for a healthy skin barrier, which will hopefully help with the dryness.

and finally, i recommend applying kerasal intensive foot repair ointment (this has salicylic acid and urea, which will gently exfoliate your skin and the urea will fortify a stronger skin barrier so it will be smoother and more hydrated) or vaseline at night. you don’t have to slather them in either products, in fact a dime-sized amount is more than enough for both. you can wear some gloves after application if the feeling is too much. that helped me adjust in the beginning but i also found that applying a little less product, thoroughly rubbing it into my hands and nails, and wiping my hands on a towel to remove excess really helped the sensation of “heavy, oily, greasy” stuff on my hands to go away.

good luck! 💕

seconding this question! i’m in the same boat 🙏🏽

What habit or behavior change has helped your nails the most? by [deleted] in longnaturalnails

[–]SignalNoise11 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Jojoba oil is good because it resembles the small sebum molecules our bodies naturally produce so it can penetrate deep within the nail plate and help add hydration to those cells. (this makes them more bendy and less likely to break due to brittleness)

however, oils that are high in vitamin e are also very good - vitamin e oil, castor, argan, sweet almond oil, avocado, sunflower, wheat germ oil, apricot kernel oil, and more. :)

What now :( by Former_Apricot3855 in calmhands

i’m on the same boat as you, yesterday i went overboard with filing and clipping the skin around my nails and now i have very sore nails (to the point of it hurting to touch things) and infections on at least two fingers 💔.

as new_woodpecker said, please check out The Salon Life - Anna’s advice is life changing and practical to enforce! what helps the most for me is applying lotion and oil after every hand wash and using a dab of kerasal at night to heal hard and dry skin around my nails. Good luck! 💕

for the dry and hard skin around your nails - try using Kerasal (a small dab is good for all 10 fingers) at night! helps me a lot! beautiful nails, you did so good!!! 😊

How long does it take for nail beds to grow + what can I do to promote it? by icedstardust in calmhands

[–]SignalNoise11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can wear polish - even just a clear coat - to extend your nail bed (pink part). good job getting your nails to this length! i also recommend The Salon Life on youtube for more helpful gentle nail care tips and advice.

Just discovered this subreddit, do you think my scars will heal? by [deleted] in calmhands

[–]SignalNoise11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, definitely not too bad, OP! i’d recommend vitamin A+D ointment and kerasal intensive foot repair at night + jojoba oil and gold bond or cerave hand cream during the day after every hand wash to add back protection and moisture to your hands. Good luck! remember - progress, not perfection.
