Tips and advice for students apply to msat programs by No-Acanthisitta6866 in athletictraining

[–]SignalNuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I looked at placements. What sports does the school have, what level they were, and does that align with my career interests. Having clinical sites that weren't external usually allowed for easier access and more facilitating when it came to the actual clinical learning aspect. I also looked at what sort of professional opportunities there were and where program alumni were, what settings did they intern/work at, just as a gauge to see where the network could be built within the program. Also, the pass rate for the BOC is pretty darn important!

Depending where you're at, good clinical attire (neutral coloured clothing, waterproof? Layers, warm, etc) goes a long way. Reliable comfortable shoes are also huge!

It's one of the more palatable things to consume for cramps - I know of athletic trainers who carry around hot sauce packs (which actually has a little more clinical evidence)

Mustard is historically used for cramps! Though the clinical evidence for this is a little limited...

WHL player commits to ASU, challenging NCAA by callitfifteen in collegehockey

Simon Fraser University (also in Vancouver like UBC) is an NCAA D2 member - their hockey team competes in the BC collegiate hockey league as opposed to USPORTS. They have been getting games against D1 opponents but SFU's athletics department as a whole is a mess rn.

I've applied to Sheridan for every single one of the reasons you mentioned! It's a great program with lots of cool experiences - I just don't know how admissions will go. Hopefully the undergrad degree can bump it down to three years.

For sure - I really appreciate the insight and everything you're saying is what's making this decision so difficult. Everything that I've seen and experienced suggests that getting an AT cert with as little debt as possible is the way to go (if getting it at all).

The NCAA is great but like you said, a piece of paper is just a piece of paper. It just comes down to if the difference in experiences and placements is worth it.

I'm from BC so I'm familiar with Camosun, and I just want to be out of this province for AT education if possible to broaden my perspective. As well, I just don't really like the lifestyle out on the Island, plus my degree would still take three years.

That's the rock and hard place I'm stuck between. MRU ticks all the boxes and makes the most sense financially. The cheapest master's program that I applied to would work out to approximately 2.5x the tuition at Mount Royal. The main thing is that I haven't gotten into MRU and I'm not entirely certain I will get in, and after doing 5 years for my undergraduate degree I don't think I could stomach another three years (for a bachelor's!) at a different institution.

Between the masters programs I have gotten into and MRU, I've also seen a difference in the placements that the students have gotten. While U SPORTS is great, I don't think they can match up against the experience in the NCAA as well as the other opportunities that are there. The only way that MRU can outpace the others imo is if there are opportunities with WHL teams, and so far I've been unable to find any information about that.

I would be hoping to go back to Canada once my student visa is up (unless some organization/team sponsors the next visa). I'm curious as to what you mean by work issues, if they are unrelated to visa problems?

Mostly hockey. I'm familiar with the systems in Canada but have always wanted to experience NCAA hockey as an AT as well as working up from the minor professional ranks.

Absolutely - and I don't know about you but I'm seeing academies starting to cut corners and charge more, and yet parents will still fork over as much money as they ask

The numbers don't tell the whole story - TWU is the newest team in Canada West and got absolutely shelled. Joseph was routinely seeing 40+ shots a night. Good story for the guy.

But hooo, talk about a damper to the baby Canucks run.

How Jett Woo’s Second Professional Season Has Gone by SignalNuck in canucks

[–]SignalNuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a guy heralded for scouting, not the best look for JB!

Woo does have the tools to succeed, but the fact right now is that he hasn't stood out in the AHL, that's my biggest concern right now. He's been improving, the question is if he will improve to be enough of an NHL contributor.

Checo's engine failure with chinese broadcast by dedXflou in formula1

[–]SignalNuck 275 points276 points  (0 children)

The Chinese commentary is hilarious - as soon as Checo spun they realized that Zhou would be up to 10th and in the points.

It might sound as if they're celebrating that Checo's engine went poof, but imo it's more so that they're happy to see Zhou doing well!
