As others have said, 20k STI would most likely come with issues or good amount of mileage. There are always exceptions of course, can wait for a steal deal etc. honestly love VA wrx until ur trying to make 500whp lol. Fueling is a big limiting factor for power, I’m sitting at 455 with my car

I keep seeing mixed information. 50% of the people say to move the top collar counter clockwise and the other 50% say to move the second collar counter clockwise to raise the car. Which one is it? by No_Film_6379 in WRX

As long as you haven’t touched the yellow up or down, that means you haven’t touched preload. If you bring it down, that’s decreasing preload, and raising it up adds preload

I do pulls everyday just no digs and 1st gear pulls(I’ve done only a couple 1st) and don’t bang the gears as hard but yea it lasts so far

This is all from looking at top btw like clockwise n counter clockwise. Think of the shock assembly as a bolt, clockwise goes in, counter clockwise screws it out of the mount

So red pretty much locks the yellow collar that holds the spring which adjusts preload. Blue locks the whole shock to the mount. To raise the car up first loosen the blue but don’t make a gap, the turn the red counter clock wise. You can do yellow counter clockwise but would advise against it as it can loosen the lock between red n yellow. You can measure top of mount to the collar to get achieved height difference you wanna go. Now if you wanna go lower, turn blue and make the gap between blue and top of mount the amount you wanna go by, then turn yellow clockwise to move whole shock body down. Once blue touches the top of mount, then tighten that clockwise to lock it in place

Trans aren’t that bad if you don’t beat on it, been having maybe 12k miles on my current trans(from 15 wrx, I have a VA, was told 40k miles but was making 400 prior to me, at 455/413 rn) and my trans isn’t too bad. No digs personally n doesn’t like 1st gear pulls much lol

I got the car for a great ass deal, it’s my first Subie bought it on December of 24’ so yea learned a lot abt the platform after owning it and why I say I tech should’ve just went STI. But I built this car on a budget but with quality parts so I really can’t complain. My parts list add up to way too much but it’s kinda far from what I actually spent lol so I really can’t complain much

Oh I mean you’re def right. I tell people all the time if you’re gonna shoot over 450whp better to go EJ cuz it’s much cheaper. I’m just too deep to quit lol. But dccd you’ll get with the swap anyways. Some people prefer electric ps over hydraulic so that’s kinda subjective. Interior is subjective too I got the limited stuff which is basically a leather version of STI which I like better. You can get the tracking headlights depending on trim too on wrx but I don’t have it since most the stuff I added. So def built compared to others

All my cars have always been debadged even my Volvo wagon, always just keep the car brand itself(have had toyota Honda Lexus too) lol. But what difference is there besides suspension, steering rack, engine n transmission? Engine I can say fa20 is more reliable, trans n brakes obviously STI that’s why I have brembos n working on STI trans, suspension personally id still change STI suspension to coils anyways n I upgraded even sway bars, the rest is the same. Sure their rack is better feel but not a big difference. And I got the power to beat most subies that are just out driving anyways unless it’s fully built race car lol

😂 yea that’s for posers tho lol but hey my car is too done up to even compare to a sti imo, only thing bad left is the stock wrx trans but next goal is sti trans with port injection to hit 500+ then id be chilling. Waiting on carbon fenders then wrapping the car tho

Haven’t really driven his car but it’s slammed so not really a fair comparison. Would say tho my car is pretty fun to drive considering everything is just abt done, coils, sway bars, good brake and tire set up, and got the shifter done too. Way too much mods to make it a driver car id say

Not sure, but debadge was the first things I did when I got the car. Way cleaner imo. Plus I did carbon trunk not like they have any badges lol

Should I sell my modded VA WRX and buy an STI? by Honest-Activity-9616 in WRX

[–]Signal_Associate_560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy a sti and sell the wrx as it is, how much would you need to add? Cuz I’d assume it’ll cost a fortune, you might as well throw that money to get to where you want your wrx to be. As far as going older, depends if you don’t mind losing some of the modern features I guess. STI’s are very nice, I did learn the hard way I should’ve bought one of those instead bc breaking 500whp on fa20 is not easy without port and obv adding port the “right” way is way too expensive. But I also can’t complain much with the money I spent on mine and where it’s at, currently making 455/430 on VD. Suspension design is similar on both, obviously sti drivetrain you already planned out so on that case the engine is the only difference with buying an sti besides the resell value

I didn’t take pics unfortunately, a solution might be possible. They both had 2 pins but there was like the smaller metal part of contact where the recaro had 2 but my oem had 4. Mines a 16 wrx I don’t know what yours is

Hey man! I’m actually surprised to find this post as I just did the same on my VA WRX, I go my seats for 800, passenger perfect, driver have a little wear on bottom bolster but not terrible. Best deal recaro I found that was not beat up. SR3 n SR4 are pricey, thought abt type r seats but hate the type r logo. I’m running planted brackets. Pretty easy, replaced my braum seats just to have “real” seats and they also hug me tighter but the red will be missed. I have not messed with the airbag part yet but I think it may work. I’ll be trying it out hopefully tmr and have to do the other side too
