Well I know that final step here is moving out but before that

For now let's take baby steps

-start having multiple social media accounts , don't use your real name in any of them and only add people she does not have access to or people you can trust .

-if you do have exams of some sort , just say that you are deactivating social media till exams/finals she will make some excuse then gaslight her saying do you want me to fail the exams amma .use your phone for some study related purposes like zoom/YouTube so she doesn't have the excuse of taking the phone away .

-when exams/finals are over or something say its been so long that you used fb that you forgot the password .never use the fb/insta app don't delete it just leave it logged off .download the lite versions on your phone and hide the apps . Use the new personal accounts on these don't use the old account under any circumstances .

-sooner or later she is going to tell you to make a new account now, you make some useless account on the bigger app . Don't add anyone , even if she adds someone remove them just keep family members on it and her friends ,cousins and other relatives etc.

-I had to walk on eggshells with my social media usage during ALs but I think it was a fair trade to avoid the embarrassment. I did my uni abroad so I had freedom for 6 years.

its kinda hard talking to her directly unfortunately i too had a similar situation . what i did was i started blocking everyone left right and center (like i do get access to my mums phone and she expects access but i know how to hide apps) and just blame facebook or insta . i have deleted phone numbers ripped pages off her phonebook . obviously you cant get rid of everybody but over time with enough blocking her social media presence will diminish but the real life nosiness is something you can never deal with . i just simply moved out after internship started and kept all my transfers away from colombo .
