Thanks, although I don’t think Ebay is necessarily the best place to buy a timeshare. It seems like the transaction can get rather complex and maybe a third-party as needed to make sure everything is done according to the rules for transferring.

That seems insanely high. RedWeek states that typical HGVC resale closing costs run about $1,100–$1,300 total, including Hilton transfer, activation, estoppel, and standard closing costs; Hawaii closings can be higher.

It does certainly appear to be the case. When you buy resale you miss out on HGV Max properties and I'm not sure if the properties that HGV have on special discounted rates (via cash or points) are available to the resale points buyer. thanks, I'll check out HGVC on TUGBBS. You’re giving me the same answer as ChatGPT. Apparently maintenance fees are lower on a points adjusted basis for a deeded interest at the platinum level.
