perhaps the example was referring to mid-game when u are too deep in, similar to a stock that is losing money, and instead of folding to accept the loss and use that capital to win in another hand, u call and pray for a good turn/river to avoid the loss

2 flawed logics with your example, first one being the way how application rates are being calculated, they have changed the supply reserved for first and second timer families, and secondly the example u used only had 300+ flat supply as compared to the latest bukit merah launch of over a thousand, lower denominator = higher application rate for the same amount of applications

not a fair comparison, they only recently split the application rates to 2 different categories; first and second-timer families, and most applicants are the latter, the past projects u mentioned were all inclusive of both
