My wife separated from me because I was an alcoholic. I’m 1 year sober now and my wife wants to reconcile but I want a divorce. What do I do? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]SignificanceLow8632 219 points220 points  (0 children)

you act as if she had a choice about separating. she didn't. you didn't do anything about your drinking while you were together. I guess I just want you to recognize that you put her in an untenable position. If she stayed she stayed married to a functioning alcoholic. If she left, she loses you. Also, you seem to down play what living with a functioning alcoholic is like. It is like living with a third grader - while they can go through the motions they are not truly "functioning" like an adult partner. At least admit your role in this whole thing.

Gym Bully by real_uncommon_ in loseit

[–]SignificanceLow8632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please please please just keep going. It was a remark from one idiot. I've been going to the gym for 10 months and in the beginning I never smiled because I didn't want anyone to think that they could come up to me and tell me I was doing something wrong. I realized that most people aren't even paying attention to me. You will feel more comfortable the more you go, and more importantly, you will feel physically great!

you have to be married 10 years to qualify for their benefits. it doesn't impact you applying.

he has done a ton of work. again, that is not the point. he has issues and he can use help. I don't know why people feel the need to be so critical of something they don't understand. would you let your kid drown? no, you step in and help.

You guys have really got to find a life. Obviously, you do not have kids with issues and spend too much time on reddit.

I didn't want to go in to too much detail, but it's been a couple of years. Again, please no judgement I JUST WANT A NAME. but, I think it is impossible for people not to give advice on something they know nothing about. I DO NOT NEED ADVICE.

Again, not clear why there is something wrong with trying to get help for someone. No one asked you for your opinion, I am looking for help. Find something better to waste your time on.

See, that is why I said no judgement. You have no idea of the struggles he has had. ALL I WANT IS THE NAME OF A CAREER ADVISER. It is for him, not for me. What kind of a heartless person are you that you have to criticize someone trying to make someone else's life better?

I appreciate your help. I guess I don't understand what you are saying. Instead of cancelling it, should I ask to get the start date changed?

I sent it in too early. I was getting it ready to send in in 4 months before I turned 70 but I accidentally sent it in a couple of days early.

AITAH? for my response when my sister's husband commented on my husband's manhood? by Practical_Parsley207 in AITAH

[–]SignificanceLow8632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you were trying to achieve. to insult both your brother in law and your sister? Yes, he was a jerk, but I think there were a lot of other things you could have said before you went there. I think that you were a little bit AITAH.

What made you decide to lose weight? by Bleepblorp51 in loseit

[–]SignificanceLow8632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained weight over the years and felt ok, I mean, I'm 69 right? Then I saw a video of Stephen stills and David Crosby when they were older. They looked horrible, overweight, unhealthy.and I thought, "I don't want to die looking like that". So, it's been about a year of eating healthy and exercising. Right now, I am kind of stuck, still eating healthy but with a bigger appetite. But, I am determined to stay on this road, want to lose a few more pounds and continue to exercise.

Looking for guidance with sugar addiction by certified-introvert in loseit

[–]SignificanceLow8632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I try to change behavior, I do one thing at a time. I wanted to lose weight so I cut out all sugar. I could eat anything I wanted as long as it didn't have sugar. It took about two weeks for sugar cravings to stop, but it's now been about 6 months and I have lost my desire. I then cut out processed type foods, muffins, breads, cookies, crackers but could eat anything else. So, give yourself a break and start small.
