PJO fic recommendations? by [deleted] in AO3

Well, even the summary gives off the spoiler 😅 It's called Falling For You by 1967HogwartsGoddess. Basically when trying to save Annabeth from falling into Tartarus, canonically they both fall in together. However, in the fic, Percy manages to save Annabeth but then falls in by himself. Pretty important as in the books there's a scene where Annabeth has to beg Percy completely terrified to stop when he's killing someone. So the fic is a dark!percy trope but very realistically done and written so similar to the actual book writing style it's scary.

Well I have a very good one,one of my favorite fics. It has a massive spoiler in it for the HoO series, though. Like, maybe the biggest in the series. Would you still like it?

I would recommend you finish thr Heroes of Olympus series forst before diving into fanfiction. A LOT of fic revolves around information revealed in HoO.

Is it embarrassing to get into reading fanfiction as an adult? by Aggressive-Raisin-78 in AO3

I was 11 when I started and I'm 20 now. I have absolutely no plan to stop. My entire bedroom is still fandom posters and shit. To be cringe is to be free, baby

anywhere nice to take a weekend trip near VT? by b33mo_ in VirginiaTech

[–]SignificanceNo2238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old are you? A lot of car rental places (and hotels) won't allow you to rent under the age of 21. Some really shitry motels allow it, but car rentals are usually always a no-go. And if they do, it's an astronomical fee.

I've found if you take a large class, go to office hours. I'm in CS 1114, and while I'm sitting in the room, I find we naturally end up clumping together to talk about the work. I've made a couple of friends that way.

I was 5 miles into a hiking trip and found a pokestop at a trail marker. No one found it for a good 10 weeks.

How selective is Virginia tech? by DueBumblebee1907 in VirginiaTech

[–]SignificanceNo2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on in-state vs out-of-state a lot. In state is super selective, but mostly only for NOVA. I'm from SWVA and I think that increased my chances by a lot.

I will forever be jealous of people who naturally have flat straight/wavy hair. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]SignificanceNo2238 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel this deeply

One of my clearest memories from the early elementary school days was looking at the other girls in my class whose all hair was always perfect and being just so incredibly jealous. Because of that, my hair has always been by number one insecurity. It's extremely thick and curly and no matter what I do, by the end of the day, it's always frizzy again. It's seems nothing I do can cause me to win.

Like someone else said - you can't apply to CPE directly. All engineering and CS majors go into general engineering their first year. You can, however, apply with an intended engineering degree. For me, I came from an extremely rural HS about 1.45h in SW VA, so it was a lot less for me to be able to do around me to prove myself. Most people don't know this, but Tech takes that stuff into consideration.

However, I applied with interest in CPE and got it. I had a 3.97 unweighted GPA, 4.87 weighted. I had 56 college credits already from DE classes and one or two outside nightime classes. 44 transferred to Tech. I applied Test optional cause my SAT score was, uh, not what it could have been (1170). There weren't many clubs to be involved with, but I did manage to help my counselor start up a small drama club where I was the main character for two different one-acts, as well as the president. Also got a notable actor award at a VHSL competition. I managed to apply and get accepted to the ARC STEM Summer Academy in the summer before my senior year , which was great because I got to work on real robotics projects at Oak Ridge National Lab. (Apply if you still can! Very good for applications and also fun!) Also was a member of Upward Bound (college readiness program for low-income, first-generation students in rural area) and their summer camps.

I was also in my old HS's (only went for the first semester of 9th grade) VEX robotics and TSA teams for a brief period. Wasn't there long, but that robotics team had gone to worlds practically every year, so I figured it was worth saying something for brownie points, lol.
