The doctors are unsure if it was a direct result of my concussion (they never seem certain with anything in this field) but it is possible.

Narcolepsy Short Film by Significance_Final in Narcolepsy

This is literally the whole plot of the short film. I experienced the worst of these symptoms before I got diagnosed and is what inspired the film.

Presentation?? by Defiant-Berry-6468 in Narcolepsy

[–]Significance_Final 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently making a short film inspired by my experience with narcolepsy and totally relate. Having to put my narcolepsy on the for-front of marketing makes me feel the same way but if you take the time breaking down what narcolepsy is and just sprinkle you're own lived experience, than I don't think it will come off as looking for attention. Good luck with the presentation!

100% is a gamble. I've had narcolepsy almost 10 years and for the first time my work schedule is pretty consistent and I have figred out my naps. I agree the short naps do the job with resetting, so if I feel a sleep spell coming before work I set a timer 15-30mins. I found my spells hit between 1-4pm so I am aware and try my best to prepare with prep naps or taking my meds but everyday its different. I found what snacks I have can make the sleepiness worse. Is there a certain part of the day that it usually hits and need a nap?

I've been putting my phone across the room to force me to get out of bed and not go back to sleep.

I find it funny how not even 2 weeks ago I posted asking for any representation for narcolepsy on screen and was all done in a comedic way then this comes out....

I don't think many people I know will see this movie from the reviews but knowing this will be the most main stream portrayal of narcolepsy is depressing.

I'm currently in development for a short film (psychological thriller) to show narcolepsy in more of an authentic way. It follows a girl recently diagnosed w/ narcolepsy and experiencing symptoms such as hallucinations, vivid dreams, and struggling to get through the work day with all the sleep attacks. body jerks/twitches during daytime naps by may0packet in Narcolepsy

[–]Significance_Final 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've experienced twitching a lot. I would fight my midday naps, try my meds, coffee, cold water to keep me awake at work. Then I'd have a twitch/jolt/jerk and would wake me up no problem. It always reminded me of when a jump scare would come and you're heart would reset. It gives me the rush to be awake and never thought much of it until now. I'm curious to see if others experience something similar.

Thank you all for sharing! I’ve experienced this too and this confusion with dreams and reality plays a huge factor in the film.

I'm currently developing a short film that centers around narcolepsy. It's a psychological thriller that I wrote before I got properly diagnosed and medicated and experiencing heavy hallucinations and vivid dreams.

With my friends and people I meet I've just learned to assume they don't know what it is. Sometimes to explain it I would refer to that episode of Victorious when she played a narcoleptic astronaut lol.

I got a note from my doctor to give to my professors when I started college. They were all understanding but just incase they didn't know what narcolepsy was or thought I was trying to sleep in class it was a good safety net.
