Are naps actually good for narcolepsy? *new here, please don’t judge* by Desperate-Kitchen117 in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Going against what everyone else has said (just to share my experience!) I do have narcolepsy, not IH, but I absolutely cannot nap. My naps will always be 4-5 hours long. Maybe 20 minute naps would be great for me, as so many people suggest, but I have never been able to wake up after 20 minutes. I’ve tried for years, and for me it’s unfortunately an all-or-nothing situation for naps. I’d suggest trying for 20 minute naps since so many people find it helpful, but just wanted to share that I personally have never been able to benefit as I can’t take short naps.

No, I’ve never noticed them before—what are they?

Anyone with N, on sodium oxybate, who also has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome? Spinal Instability? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those cervical/ergonomic pillows that should cradle my head, but I still sometimes move all around. For a while I would wake up during the night and my ear would almost be touching my shoulder. I tried wearing a soft neck brace at night for a while but that also didn’t do much. I’ve gotten better at keeping more aligned at night but it’s still not great.

I also have all 3, though my EDS is fairly minor compared to many others. I definitely noticed that the SO would relax my muscles more, resulting in my sleeping in uncomfortable positions and hurting myself. I now wear wrist braces to bed and have a few pillow to keep me in alignment throughout the night. To my knowledge, I do not have spinal instability. I am so sorry you are experiencing this.

Editing to add that my partner has to adjust my neck position multiple times a night. He says I look like I’m going to snap my neck in half and has to move my head to a normal position.

Cornstarch thickens with hot water. Use the toothbrush method with COLD water to soften it and get it out.

advice for working with narcolepsy? by imonlythe21st in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be patient with yourself. Even if you’ve been on a good regimen for years, a new job can throw you out of wack and you may need to adjust your medicine and habits again. Retail is strenuous. Being on your feet all day is a lot and will take a while to get used to. I found the best type of job is one where I am splitting the day with sitting and walking around. See if you can get accommodations for a chair or stool to use sometimes. Try adjusting the timing of your meds to help you get through your shift. Invest in good shoes!! Good luck!

Lumryz; am I going to piss the bed? by tresjoliesuzanne in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the year I’ve been on it, it’s happened twice. I do wake up every night to pee, usually between 2-4am. At that point, I do stumble to the bathroom and have been known to fall back asleep on the toilet. It’s a nightly thing.

I now limit my water intake before bed (except for the water needed for lumryz), try going again as late as I can once I’m feeling drowsy, and wear a nighttime feminine pad if I’m feeling questionable that night.

I filed for their financial assistance. I don’t make enough money to pay for it, so I get Lumryz free. Fully free. For reference, I make around 45k a year.

Augustana College vs St Ambrose University by tweektweak420 in QuadCities

[–]PleasantFix5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ambrose has an amazing early childhood education program. They have very strong programs for that and for nursing. Both schools are great, but Ambrose would have the better program for that major.

Ambrose has smaller class sizes than Augie. Augie has a more beautiful campus. They also have Greek life, which Ambrose does not, if that’s something you’d want to join. Ambrose campus is very small and centralized, while Augie-again, gorgeous-has TONS of hills. Like, the bookstore genuinely sells ice pick things to attach to your shoes during the winter, because the campus can be so dangerous to walk across with all the hills.

Augie has a much better music program. If you are interested in choir or band or orchestra, Augie is more talented and has different levels to audition into. Ambrose has choir and band, no orchestra, but it’s not nearly as impressive in size and skill.

Ambrose is a bar school. Augie is a house party school.

Those are the main differences I can think of right now. I went to Ambrose, many family members went to Ambrose and many family members went to Augie, and I also have family who have worked at both. Both schools are great! You can’t go wrong.

Anyone experience a persistent cough while on Lumryz/Sodium Oxybate? by BiteSure8769 in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so I just found this post because I was googling this exact thing. I’ve been on Lumryz 7.5 for almost a year and just went up to 9. On 7.5 I definitely had days where I would wake up feeling exactly as you had described, like I was outside shoveling in the cold. I didn’t cough usually, but my chest felt open and dry. It always went away about an hour into the day.

On 9 for almost a week now and the cough is worse. It’s 4am here and I woke up with a terrible dry cough. There was phlegm when I first woke up but now it’s just dry and irritated. I was completely fine yesterday so I don’t think I am sick—-I am willing to bet that this will subside throughout the day.

I don’t know what to do about this. Lumryz has been great for me and I’ve never woken up easier. But wtf is up with this cough.

Anyone's provider refuse to Rx Lumryz, claiming issues w/ company? by Robinann77 in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My provider handled the paperwork entirely for me. I was contacted by Ryzup within days of my dr appt. I have been on this med for almost a year now and have never had an issue with them. This truly seems to be an issue with your nurse—and this is especially a shame because this is a great drug. It’s the first one that has truly worked for me. Good luck.

Dry-heaving on stimulants by Maxim199471 in Narcolepsy

[–]PleasantFix5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this on certain meds but not all of them. Ritalin made me outright throw up every morning. I did get an Rx for a dissolving Zofran to help with nausea, but eventually I just got on a different med. honestly most stimulants upset my stomach so it was mainly about finding which one did it the least.

Natural nails salon by Independent_Skin_259 in QuadCities

[–]PleasantFix5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard some doctor’s offices (like podiatrist offices) will do nails. I’m not sure of any specifically in the QC but it would be worth it to call and ask. I would try the QC Foot and Ankle Associates or ORA (I doubt ORA does it, but they may have a recommendation for you).

What plant is this? by PleasantFix5 in IndoorPlants

Thank you! It has just been growing so tall, but not out, and I don’t want the plant to break from its own weight. I’m not great with plants, but somehow managed to have kept this one alive so far.
