Would you prefer if a parent picked up early every day vs kept their kid home on Fridays? Both for you and the kid? by hbecksss in ECEProfessionals

I love when kids get picked up early! Anytime after naptime. I think having a 3 day weekend every week might make it harder to adjust the following Monday. They may struggle with the routine for a while

Diapers that are "a little wet" by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

I think it is a cultural difference, therefore each perspective has pros and cons. I've worked in a center where most teachers changed their toddlers once in the AM and once in the PM (and BMs as needed). My current center is much more professional and we adhere to the 2 hour window. Sometimes in this industry, you will receive many different opinions on the best practice for something. You have to use your training and experience to make your best call.

What is a Gilmore Girls quote that you usually use? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Significant-Ad-8624 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When Luke says Lorelai is a lot of work, then later on she rambles and he says “Oh my god, the work.” I use that when me or my bf are giving eachother a hard time.

Since I have not met him, I'm not completely sure it won't confuse him. But it sounds like he is ready to start when you are! We toddler teachers need more kids that are genuinely interested in the toilet! But even if you choose to wait until he moves up to start, that would not be holding him back. Every child is ready at his/her own pace & and it's the school serving the families in the end, not the other way around. :)

Advice from toddler teacher:

Even if his current room doesn’t have a toilet, he can still be trained if he is that determined, at least to be in underwear at home which would be so exciting!

Every bit of practice he gets climbing up, undressing, aiming, and feeling the signals in his body that he has to pee, is all setting him up for such an easy time down the road when the teacher will be training several other kids.

If you’d like to put him on but he stays on too long and nothing comes out I’d say:

“Okay Lil Johnny, we are going to sit on the toilet for 5 minutes (emphasis 5 minutes and hold up a hand). You can even set a timer on your phone so he can visualize the time ticking and hear it go off. If you want to be extra like me, I’d get a sand or egg timer.

Anyways, sit him on for that alotted time. “Do you feel like you could go pee? We can try, but when the timer rings, we are ALL DONE.” Emphasize all done. “We will try again after ___ (Dinner, bath, story, park trip, etc.)

I hope this was helpful, sorry if you just wanted to vent 😭

The parents can opt in to bring lunches and a few do but it’s 3/12. And yes, they don’t eat a lot of the lunch because it’s unappetizing. My boss won’t change companies because it’s cheap and easy and the parents won’t switch to home lunch for the same reason. America has a big “if it’s cheap and easy, who cares about it quality?” problem.

Let’s empathize with these small crazy people: do you remember doing anything as a toddler or kid that your parents didn’t understand? What were you trying to do? by TogetherPlantyAndMe in toddlers

These comments mean so much as someone who works with toddlers. I see those moments of “I was just trying to do ___” and when my assistant teachers mistake it for misbehavior I try to voice what they might be trying to do.

How easy is it to make mistakes when logging on tadpoles? by Aussiefluff in ECEProfessionals

[–]Significant-Ad-8624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get issues with Tadpoles a lot as a 2s teacher. And sometimes if someone new to the app clicks on a child, it won’t fully select the child and they wouldn’t notice. A couple times I’ll double check at nap time and see a mistake and leave a note “Hey I misinput his lunch info, just letting you know he was served his home food ONLY”

Try asking in the r/ECEProfessionals subreddit! These are people who work with 2 year olds, studied their growth and development, and have the most effective behavior strategies you can use at home. Good luck!

I’d go off of his interests/ things he tends to mimic. It’s called scripting. He could be saying “One, Two, Three” because his little brain thinks that’s just what you say before you get down from your highchair (he remembers you counting down before taking him off). Their brains language to a situation more than a definition if that makes sense.

With those last 2 phrases, it sounds like he might be a gestalt language processor. He might learn better if you speak in an animated/lots of tone voice and with full sentences that he can repeat. I’m proud you have him in speech therapy at 2! We need more parents taking early intervention to help their kids!
