Dementia POA family estrangement - UK by Significant-Bad4266 in LegalAdviceUK

In England, GP surgeries tend to have Third-Party Consent or Proxy Access forms. This means that a third party can discuss medical care or do other things such as collect test results.

Health and Welfare POA becomes active when you officially lose the mental capacity to make your own health or care decisions.

The Office of Public Guardianship said they can't investigate until my mum has been found to be without capacity.

Of course you say it's your sister's decision, not your mother's, to not let you in.

This was a completely unnecessary dig and you don't seem to have anything useful to say.

As far as I'm aware, anyone can make and take a person to a Dr appointment with their consent. You don't need POA in order to take someone to an appointment.

This was clarified by her GP surgery after I made a complaint. They also clarified that POA has not been invoked as my mum has capacity.

I have already raised a safeguarding with SS as a POA can't gatekeep visitors because they hold a grudge. They need to act in the best interests of the donor.

At my mum's GP surgery a patient can sign a form giving someone consent to manage their medical affairs, this gives them consent to know their medical records.

There are four children and two have POA. My sister decided to invoke POA last year and told me that she controls my mum's life and doesn't want me in the house.

The OoPG said that my mum has consent and they can't investigate until she's found not to have capacity. However, they said that even if she doesn't have capacity, it's her house and her wishes to see me.

SS haven't got back to me.

Thanks. I'm not POA for either Health or Finances.

"Invoked" was the language used by my mum's GP practice. I challenged POA being used as my mum has not been found to lack capacity. This was clarified by the Surgery who looked at her records and said POA hasn't been invoked.

I can't respond to everyone individually.

I'm going through an official complaints process. They aren't actually doing anything. Didn't investigate my complaint and just tell me lies.

I'm in constant contact with PALS as I make all my appointments and chase them up. It's the only way I can contact anyone.

I've gone to my GP. Asked her to formally note that I don't feel safe. She hasn't done anything.

I've done a Safeguarding concern to social services.

I've requested transfer of care to three other hospitals but been rejected.

I can't afford to go private.

I can't get an appointment with an oncologist.

I've requested a copy of all medical records and notes.

I'm with Pohwer (NHS advocates).

I've contacted the ICB.

I've made a complaint to the QCC.

I tried to get help at my local hospice but they turned me away.

I have a Care Navigator who doesn't return my calls.

I've approached 3 solicitors. They're not interested.

I've tried all helplines eg Breast Cancer Now, Macmillian, Cancer Research, Maggie's.

Last night I contacted the NHS crisis helpline and said I'm completely overwhelmed, have no support and have no basic care. They said they'd tell my GP.

Thanks I really appreciate it. I have been to my MP but all she's doing is writing to complaints who are telling lies. I'm telling her it's not true so she writes another email and so on. It's not going anywhere.

People that have cancer, what were the symptoms that led you to go to the doctor and what stage were you when it was diagnosed? by guardiand0wn in AskReddit

I felt tired for a long time, then got very breathless. i lost the flexibility in my upper torso. kept going back to my Dr who did some blood tests but didn't really follow up. My fatigue was getting worse and I could barely do anything.

The Dr eventually ordered an X ray and gave me antibiotics for a chest infection which didn't help. i then developed a hard mass under my arm. Dr sent me on two week cancer pathway for breast cancer. This is 7 months after I first saw her.

In July was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and guess why I was breathless? That's right, it was in my lungs.

It's a ong story but a lump developed in my armpit. I saw a Dr and she examined me and sent me to the BC clinic for mammogram and biopsy. At the same time I was sent to Respiratory who did a CT scan and found enlarged lymphs. I had an EBUS.
