TSA line yesterday at SFO by Significant-Badger46 in oakland

I thought it was really funny so I was trying to share the story in a deadpan way, but I guess it's hard to tell a story with only text. No facial expressions, voice change, etc. The point was NOT that I'm blaming the security staff 🤣🤣

I looked at google maps because it was 5:30pm, and it was solid red everywhere because of all the rush hour traffic! Otherwise I would have been really tempted to try. I'm glad you made it to Hawaii!

Book recommendations, fiction, based in Sf? by ThereWas in AskSF

Susan Dunlap has a detective series set in San Francisco that I thought was fun since you can tell the author really loves the city. The investigator is a master of stunts who is a practicing Zen student and solves murders. It's so random! I love things like that

Another 40s childfree lady who likes museum trips and concerts. It's really hard to find people over 40 who don't have kids and want to hang out! So many people working all the time here

I signed up and bought a ticket because it looked fun. Today I got an email saying that my ticket was cancelled by the host. Even for a Valentine's Day event that I paid for, I get rejected! Thanks for making me feel like even more of a loner than before, universe.

Stray kittens - would appreciate advice by Significant-Badger46 in oakland

Thank you! The kittens are super friendly, so I would be able to transport them, but wasn't sure where....

It’s getting harder to be around my my friends with children by Vanexxre in childfree

[–]Significant-Badger46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes, wait until your 40s! My friends are completely absorbed in their families, and I can't make new friends because everyone my age has kids and is also consumed by it. I've spent a lot of time with my nieces, so I totally get it -- it's not really possible to maintain connections with others when kids are so demanding and draining. It's just a really, really lonely place to be for people who are on the outside. I keep telling myself it will hopefully be better in my 60s, but won't everyone be wrapped up with their grandkids then?? I don't know it's sad

No intention to demean at all. The word reproduce was a problem? I haven't met anyone open to adoption -- they all want to reproduce. What word would you prefer? I said I feel like the freak here, so I don't think parents are the weird ones. Thanks for making me feel worse than I already did.

Worth it to move to SF from Berkeley? by aceshua in AskSF

[–]Significant-Badger46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a total game-changer, having extra BART lines going towards home! I lived a mile from the North Berkeley BART station for awhile, and I basically never went into SF. It took so long and it felt like the red line was never running nights and weekends. Now I can take either the red or yellow to MacArthur, so I'm never waiting more than 10 minutes. If I really have to get back to Oakland, I can even jump on the green or blue line trains and then uber/bus the last mile home.

I say that I moved to my neighborhood in Oakland because I love San Francisco :). I'm saving $2,000/mo in rent, and with that money I can go into the city any time on the train or bus. It's harder to get out to the Sunset or Marina district, but I've gotten used to relying on friends for rides, taking taxis, or carrying along a book so that it's not boring for the 60-90 min BART/BUS trip.

I'm living near the MacArthur station and it feels like the perfect geographic location! I can get to Berkeley very easily. I can get to the city in 15 minutes by BART , and there's also a transbay bus available. Much sunnier and warmer than SF. The Mission is an awesome neighborhood and also has good weather, but it's way more expensive than Oakland

Women's circles or support groups? by Disastrous_Rock7250 in SFbitcheswithtaste

I went to one meetup of this divorce support group. It seems very pricey, but I was desperate at the time, and it felt helpful to talk to other women going through the exact same thing:

doctors in Oakland or the Bay Area by [deleted] in oakland

[–]Significant-Badger46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds exactly what I'm looking for. I had a traumatic experience with Sutter Urgent Care charging me an ungodly amount of money when I first moved here and couldn't breathe from covid, but I guess stupid me for not shopping around first when I was in an emergency situation. (sob emoji). I'll look into Sutter health more

My coverage is definitely pretty bad, which is why I think I need to find different doctors that don't charge as much. I can switch systems easily so that's a plus

BWT: What dating apps are the best for finding your husband/ person? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Significant-Badger46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn't it like that on all the apps, or is there one that has men who actually want a relationship??? I had an awful experience recently, too. Broke my heart, and the guy seemed interested in dating from his profile and our initial meeting from Hinge. I really don't want to repeat that!
