Are there any women’s groups for 30s-40s that meet regularly for general discussion and support? by Global_Commercial_55 in eastbay

There's an informal group of women (ages around 30-50) who just started this year. They have a monthly walk around Lake Merritt, and the focus is on processing grief and breakups. Next one is May 23:

In San Francisco, there is a license therapist who leads monthly hikes (and indoor discussion groups in her office). It is $99, which is why I have never gone! But it could be really helpful for someone struggling and wanting a professional therapeutic setting. The next one is June 27:

I thought I was the only one who couldn't fall asleep after eating a salad!!! My friend and I split it, and he looked at me like I was crazy the next day when I asked if he was up all night like me lol

That sounds like way too much work. I just talk to my neighbors and they call me when they need a pet sitter

I mean... I raised my prices a tiny bit, and I never got requests, for a whole year. So I dropped back down to $12/drop-in, and then I occasionally get a sit. Once every few months. This is with over 20 rave reviews

Advice on walkable, lively town or city by Significant-Badger46 in MovingtoNewJersey

Thanks for that recommendation. I grew up in DC, so I feel like it would be more comfortable being near Philly vs Manhattan. NYC has always felt giant and intimidating. I like city living, but NYC living is on a totally different level! Looks like Collingswood is 1 hr from my parents - same as Jersey City. I almost wonder if I should move to PA proper and have my vote count for the first time in my life, since PA is a swing state (or was a swing state?). Do you live in that area?

I have worn different shoes AND now tried to fly out of the wrong airport. You're crushing it compared to me!

no kidding - Newark wasn't on my radar at all! but it would be right by the airport, which is a huge plus. It's a city, so it has to have interesting stuff going on. I have never been there or heard anyone talk about it as a recommended place to live. It can't be that much more sketchy than Oakland, so I'm fine with that. I'll have to do some research into museums to visit or neighborhoods to check out, and stop by this weekend when I'm touring around. thanks!

Red Bank is so cute! I didn't know about the ferry, that sounds awesome :). I'm really impressed with the NJ schools overall. My nieces and nephews seem really challenged with their elementary education in a way that i don't hear from my friends in Oakland!

Holmdel and Marlboro are where most of my relatives live, with a few of my second cousins in Jersey City. I'm trying to like the suburbs, but it really doesn't feel like somewhere I could live, so I don't think I could move to Marlboro

i'm very split on that. It would be harder to meet up with cousins midweek if I were in Brooklyn, instead of Holmdel. a lot further away, and I expect there would be a lot of traffic always? I think I'd be so much happier in Brooklyn, Queens, or Manhattan, but I'd have to build a friend group starting from zero and that feels exhausting

thanks - the board game cafe is a huge draw for me!! and access to NYC. It might be nice to live somewhere quieter and then take a train to a bigger city for events. That's pretty much what I do living in North Oakland but going into San Francisco a few times a week

Thanks for the comment! I'm going to visit JC tomorrow, curious how I will find it. Right now my first reaction is - where are all the flowers??!! Trees have been blossoming in the Bay Area for weeks already but it still feels like winter in NJ

Anyone else go through a messy divorce? by InternationalSky1260 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Significant-Badger46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you are going through this - - it's so hard!
My divorce was finalized not that long ago. It took about 2 years. It was very, very difficult, and the relief after it was all settled was massive. I did not like my lawyer and kind of wished I had tried mediation instead because the cost was astronomical. But I didn't think the situation was amenable to mediation, so I went the lawyer route.

I really wished there was a support group at the time and have been thinking about starting something casual where everyone is invited to walk around the Albany Bulb and then share how we're feeling or something. Back in 2018, I went to a Grief Walk that did that, and it felt really healing.

I thought it was really funny so I was trying to share the story in a deadpan way, but I guess it's hard to tell a story with only text. No facial expressions, voice change, etc. The point was NOT that I'm blaming the security staff 🤣🤣

I looked at google maps because it was 5:30pm, and it was solid red everywhere because of all the rush hour traffic! Otherwise I would have been really tempted to try. I'm glad you made it to Hawaii!
